NIO (NYSE: NIO) will start a trial of a service next month that will allow its car owners in China the flexibility to rent the company's cars while traveling in Europe.

NIO's destination travel service in Europe will begin a trial run on July 1, and those interested can make reservations at that time, according to an article posted today on the NIO App.

The service will be available in Norway, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Denmark, covering 11 cities including Oslo, Berlin, Frankfurt, Munich, and Amsterdam.

NIO will offer two models, the ET7 and EL7, in the trial, but for now it is only available to NIO car owners.

The Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker launched the ET7, ET5 and EL7 in Europe at the NIO Berlin 2022 event on October 7, 2022. The EL7 is known as the ES7 in China and is using that new name in Europe because of the lawsuit with Audi.

ET7 deliveries in Europe started in October 2022 and EL7 deliveries there started on January 31 of this year.

Owners wishing to use NIO's service must place an order 14 days in advance, with a minimum order length of seven days, at a price of 700 euros ($760) per week. Any use of the car beyond 7 days will be calculated at 100 euros per day.

The benefits provided by NIO for consumers of the service include battery swap service free of charge, free NIO House drinks, and 7*24 hours Chinese service.

NIO Houses are NIO's flagship showrooms, which function as a space to display and sell vehicles while providing a quality lifestyle for NIO owners. The company's showrooms also include the much smaller NIO Spaces.

NIO currently has six NIO Houses in Europe, located in Oslo and Kristiansand, Norway; Berlin, Frankfurt and Dusseldorf, Germany; and Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

NIO plans to start supporting the use of NIO Credits within its Chinese mobile app for NIO Houses overseas at the end of July, it said.

This year's Labor Day holiday in China ran from April 29 to May 3, and the data released today by NIO covers the period from April 28 to May 4, during which it allowed owners free, unlimited access to swap stations along highways.

NIO saw 68,748 battery swap services on the first day of the holiday, April 29, the highest number for a single day of the holiday, and its highway stations provided 23,460 services that day.

On May 2, NIO's sites along highways provided 23,632 services, the highest number of such sites in a single day. All of NIO's battery swap stations provided 64,309 services that day.

The free battery swap benefits offered by NIO this past Labor Day holiday are in addition to the benefits already offered to owners.

NIO offered free access to battery swap stations from January 13 to February 5 during this year's Chinese New Year holiday, which ran from January 21 to January 27.

On January 27, NIO's battery swap stations reached an all-time high of 62,356 services in a single day, according to its previously announced data.

NIO's single-day battery swap service hits record high on Labor Day eve-CnEVPost

NIO (NYSE: NIO) saw its battery swap stations reach a new record high in services as China heads into the Labor Day holiday travel rush.

On April 28, NIO provided a record 62,746 battery swap services in a single day, the company announced today.

April 29 to May 3 is the Labor Day holiday in China this year, which is usually the peak of driving trips for Chinese people.

NIO owners will have free and unlimited access to the company's battery swap stations along highways from April 28 to May 4, although vehicles used for operations are excluded, it announced on April 25.

Most NIO owners currently have the benefit of four to six free battery swap services per month, with a few early adopters having unlimited access.

On April 28, NIO's battery swap stations along highways provided 16,584 free services to owners, up 104 percent from 8,115 the previous day, according to figures released today.

This is the second time NIO has offered such benefits to owners after the Chinese New Year holiday earlier this year.

NIO offered free access to battery swap stations from January 13 to February 5 during the Chinese New Year holiday, which ran from January 21 to January 27.

NIO (NYSE: NIO) will continue to allow its car owners unlimited free access to battery swap stations along highways in China for the upcoming golden week, following a similar campaign earlier this year.

For the upcoming Labor Day holiday, all NIO owners will have unlimited free access to battery swap stations along highways, the electric vehicle (EV) maker announced today on its mobile app.

The Labor Day holiday in China runs from April 29 to May 3 this year, and NIO owners will have free access to these battery swap stations from April 28 to May 4, although vehicles used for operations are excluded.

Most NIO owners currently have the benefit of four to six free battery swaps per month, with a few early adopters having unlimited access to the service.

The benefits NIO is offering for the upcoming holiday season are in addition to the benefits owners already have.

The company offered similar benefits during the Chinese New Year holiday earlier this year, allowing for a spike in the number of services offered at its battery swap stations.

NIO offered free access to battery swap stations from January 13 to February 5 during this year's Chinese New Year holiday, which ran from January 21 to January 27.

On January 27, NIO's battery swap stations reached an all-time high of 62,356 services in a single day, according to its previously announced data.

The free battery swap service provided during the Chinese New Year holiday did not put additional cost pressure on NIO, as the revenue generated by its charging stations at the time largely covered those costs, the company said at a media briefing in early February.

As of April 25, NIO had 1,369 battery swap stations in China, including 362 along highways, according to data monitored by CnEVPost.

The company also has 2,512 charging stations in China, providing 14,903 charging piles.

NIO's goal is to add 1,000 battery swap stations this year, bringing the number of facilities to 2,300 by the end of 2023.

NIO scales back purchase benefits, NOP+ software to start charging in Jul

will no longer give customers a free home charger, and will upgrade NOP+ to a formal release and start a subscription system for the software starting July 1 for RMB 380 per month.

NIO (NYSE: NIO) announced two important decisions today that are expected to spur order growth in the short term, as well as allow the software to start contributing to revenue.

The Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker is scaling back the benefits it offers customers, as its user base has recently surpassed 300,000.

Starting June 1, customers who purchase the NIO ET7, EC7, ES7 and ET5 will no longer continue to receive free home chargers, and the free battery swap benefit will be adjusted to four times per month, the company announced today.

As background, NIO has offered customers free home chargers and four free battery swaps per month for the past several years.

If customers choose to forgo the free home charger, they will receive six free battery swaps per month.

For customers who pay a deposit for the above models on or before May 31, the benefits for first-time owners will remain the same.

Test drives and lock-in orders for the new ES8 will be allowed starting in June, and customers who pay a deposit for the model before August 1 will still enjoy these benefits before they are scaled back.

For all customers who have already received deliveries of the vehicles, their rights are not affected, NIO stressed.

The move is expected to boost potential customers' car purchase decisions in the short term, as the 7 kW home charger NIO has been giving away in past years costs RMB 7,500 ($1,090) each.

The free battery swap entitlement that NIO offers owners 4-6 times per month is valid for life.

The move comes at a time when NIO's user base is getting larger. The EV maker delivered 10,378 vehicles in March, bringing its cumulative deliveries since inception to 320,597, according to data released earlier this month.

In addition to the reduced vehicle purchase rights, the NOP (Navigate on Pilot) + assisted driving software, which NIO offers owners a free trial of, will require a fee starting in July.

The free trial of NOP+ Beta will end on June 30, and from July 1 the software will be upgraded to a formal release and on a subscription basis for RMB 380 per month, the company announced today.

NOP+ is NIO's assisted driving feature based on its NT 2.0 platform, which enables a point-to-point assisted driving experience on highways and urban expressway scenarios.

NOP+ Beta features include automatic ramp entry and exit, automatic selection of the optimal lane, and active passing of slow-moving vehicles.

On December 27, 2022, NIO began recruiting the first beta testers for NOP+ Beta, which was limited to 10,000 slots.

On February 20, NIO began allowing owners of all its NT 2.0 platform vehicles to apply for a trial of NOP+.

As of April 8, nearly 45,000 owners have participated in the free trial of NOP+ Beta, and the mileage has exceeded 21 million kilometers, NIO said today.

NIO has collected more than 38,000 user feedbacks in the trial, allowing more than 20 iterations of the software, it said.

Currently, NOP+ Beta has covered 95 percent of China's core highways and urban expressways, and has significantly improved the safety and comfort of the experience in scenarios including following, changing lanes to overtake and ramp passing, NIO said.

NOP+ will gradually switch and upgrade to BEV architecture in 2023, and the leading hardware capability and algorithm architecture will help NOP+ cover more road scenarios, the company said.

In addition, starting in the second half of 2023, the pilot assisted driving feature in the middle of battery swap stations on highways will gradually cover all such stations, NIO said.

Notably, NIO has set aside time for potential customers to consider it.

Customers who purchase ET7, ES7, EC7 and ET5 before June 1, and those who purchase the new ES8 before August 1, will receive 2 years of free access to NOP+.

Customers who have previously purchased the NIO Pilot software will receive at least 5 years of free NOP+ if they purchase a new Banyan-based model from NIO again.
