Tesla hikes prices of new Model S and Model X in China
Tesla raised the prices of the entire new Model S and Model X lineup in China by about 2 percent, following price increases for the locally produced Model 3 and Model Y three days ago.

Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) raised the prices of both of its more expensive models by about 2 percent in China, following a price hike three days ago for two less expensive locally produced models.
Prices for the new Model S and the entire Model X lineup were raised by RMB 19,000 ($2,750) in China, the latest information from Tesla's China website shows.
The latest starting price for the dual-motor all-wheel drive Model S in China is RMB 808,900, up RMB 19,000, or 2.41 percent, from RMB 789,900 previously, information monitored by CnEVPost shows.
The latest starting price for the tri-motor all-wheel drive Model S Plaid is RMB 1,028,900, up RMB 19,000, or 1.88 percent, from RMB 1,009,900 previously.
The latest starting price for the dual-motor all-wheel drive Model X is RMB 898,900, up RMB 19,000, or 2.16 percent, from RMB 879,900.
The new starting price for the tri-motor, all-wheel drive Model X Plaid is RMB 1,058,900, up RMB 19,000, or 1.83 percent, from RMB 1,039,900.
The expected delivery dates in China for both the new Model S and the full line of Model X models are the second quarter, the same as before, information on Tesla's China website shows.

On May 2, Tesla just raised the prices of its full lineup of Model 3 and Model Y in China, a less than 1 percent increase that means the move is more aimed at dispelling consumer wait-and-see sentiment.
Tesla has a factory in Shanghai that makes the Model 3 and Model Y, and their prices in China were all raised by 2,000 yuan at the time.
The company currently offers two versions of the Model 3 in China -- the rear-wheel-drive Model 3 and the dual-motor all-wheel-drive Model 3 Performance -- and three versions of the Model Y -- the entry version Model Y, Model Y Long Range, and Model Y Performance.
The two versions of the Model 3 currently start at RMB 231,900 and RMB 331,900 respectively, while the three versions of the Model Y start at RMB 263,900, RMB 313,900 and RMB 363,900 respectively.
Last month, Tesla lowered the prices of the Model 3 and the Model Y in several markets around the world, raising concerns about whether it would lower prices in China.
Tesla's move to raise the prices of all available models in China this week could help dispel some potential consumers' wait-and-see sentiment, which could benefit sales in the near term.
The electric vehicle maker delivered 76,663 vehicles in China in March and exported 12,206 from its Shanghai plant, according to the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA). April figures are expected to be available within days.

Tesla hikes Model 3, Model Y prices slightly in China
Tesla's move could help dispel the wait-and-see sentiment of some potential consumers, which could benefit sales in the near term.
Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) has raised prices for its entire Model 3 and Model Y lineup in China in a move that appears to be aimed at dispelling consumer wait-and-see sentiment.
Tesla has a factory in Shanghai that makes the Model 3 and Model Y, and their prices in China have all been raised by 2,000 yuan ($289), or less than 1 percent.
The company now offers two versions of the Model 3 in China -- the rear-wheel drive Model 3 and the dual-motor all-wheel drive Model 3 Performance -- and three versions of the Model Y -- the entry version Model Y, Model Y Long Range, and Model Y Performance.
The two versions of the Model 3 currently start at RMB 231,900 and RMB 331,900, respectively, and the three versions of the Model Y start at RMB 263,900, RMB 313,900 and RMB 363,900, respectively.
Expected delivery dates for all of these Tesla models remain unchanged from previous dates, with 1-4 weeks for both versions of the Model 3, 2-5 weeks for both the base Model Y as well as the Model Y Long Range, and 1-4 weeks for the Model Y Performance.
Last month, Tesla lowered the prices of the Model 3 as well as the Model Y in several markets around the world, raising concerns about whether it would lower prices in the Chinese mainland.
On April 15, Grace Tao, Tesla's vice president of external affairs, shared several charts on Weibo showing that all versions of the Model 3 and Model Y available in the Chinese mainland are priced lower than in all other markets.
Tao shared the charts without comment, although the move appears to suggest that Tesla won't be dropping prices in China in the near term.
Tesla's move today could help dispel the wait-and-see mood of some potential consumers, which could benefit sales in the near term.

Chery’s NEV unit cuts vehicle prices by up to 10%
In January-February, Chery's NEV sales were 13,293 units, down 57.6 percent from 31,367 units in the same period last year.

Chinese auto giant Chery's new energy vehicle (NEV) division has slashed the prices of several models, becoming the latest car company to do so.
Chery New Energy announced today that official guide prices for three of its NEV models has been cut by up to 9,000 yuan ($1,310) starting at 00:00 on March 27.
The reduction covers the QQ Ice Cream, Little Ant and Wujie Pro, with the Little Ant's 408km range seeing an RMB 9,000, or 8.74 percent, price cut.
The QQ Ice Cream priced at RMB 39,900 saw a price reduction of RMB 4,000, or 10 percent.
Following this reduction, the QQ Ice Cream's latest starting price range is RMB 35,900 to RMB 45,900, the Little Ant is RMB 64,999 to RMB 94,000, and the Wujie Pro is RMB 84,900 to RMB 110,900.
This is due to the global price correction of new energy materials and the company's cost control and supply chain management capabilities, Chery New Energy said in an announcement.
The price of lithium carbonate, a key raw material for batteries, has fallen sharply in the past few months, with the current price having dropped about 50 percent from its high point last November.
As of March 24, the average price of battery-grade lithium carbonate in China was RMB 277,500 per ton and industrial-grade lithium carbonate was RMB 235,000 per ton, according to data from Mysteel monitored by CnEVPost.
While Chery New Energy attributed the price cuts to lower raw material prices, the recent price war in the Chinese auto industry and its weak performance so far this year may be the bigger reasons.
After Tesla cut prices earlier in the year, several NEV makers followed suit. Earlier this month, multiple traditional internal combustion engine automakers launched price wars with steep discounts.
These moves have increased the consumer's wait-and-see attitude toward car purchases and disrupted the industry, and last week, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) called on all parties to help return the industry to normalcy.
For Chery, its performance at the beginning of the year was weak.

VW joins China auto price war, offers up to $5,820 discount on ID. series EVs
FAW-Volkswagen's retail sales of NEVs in January-February were 9,572 units, down 8.3 percent from 10,442 units in the same period last year.
The price war in China's auto industry continues, with Volkswagen becoming the latest to join in.
FAW-Volkswagen is offering discounts of up to RMB 40,000 yuan ($5,820) on the ID. family of models, with the lineup starting at as low as RMB 174,900 yuan, according to a poster posted on Weibo on March 11 by the Volkswagen joint venture in China.
This is to celebrate the second anniversary of the launch of the ID. family of models, according to the poster.
In addition to the discount, FAW-Volkswagen is offering consumers a free camping kit worth RMB 4,900.
FAW-Volkswagen's poster shows that these offers are for a limited time, but no expiration date is provided.
Currently, FAW-Volkswagen is selling the ID. series of ID.4 Crozz and ID.6 Crozz, two SUVs with suggested retail prices starting at RMB 217,900 and RMB 258,900 respectively.
In addition to FAW-Volkswagen, SAIC-Volkswagen, another Volkswagen joint venture in China, is also offering discounts for the ID. series EVs.
SAIC Volkswagen ID. series pure electric vehicles are offering discounts of up to RMB 30,000, and consumers can also receive up to RMB 10,000 worth of other benefits at dealership stores, according to a poster.
Like FAW-Volkswagen, SAIC-Volkswagen also offers the ID.4 series models, ID.4 X and ID.6 X, with suggested retail prices starting at RMB 195,888 and RMB 259,888, respectively.
In addition to the two ID. series models, SAIC Volkswagen also offers the compact ID.3 model with a suggested retail price starting at RMB 162,888.
Volkswagen had announced monthly sales of the ID. series EVs in late 2021 to early 2022, but then stopped publishing them.

BYD offers discounts for Song and Seal as China’s auto price war intensifies

As the price war intensifies in China's auto industry, BYD has also started offering discounts for its two models, even though the official prices remain unchanged.
Starting tomorrow, consumers who order BYD's Song Plus lineup can get a discount of RMB 6,800 ($980), or RMB 8,800 for the Seal, according to a BYD Weibo post today.
This is a limited-time marketing campaign valid from March 10 to March 31, BYD said.
BYD did not provide more details, but the Song family, as well as the Seal, are among its best-selling models.
BYD sold 193,655 new energy vehicles (NEVs) in February, including 191,664 passenger cars and 1,991 commercial vehicles, the company said in figures released on March 1.
Song family models sold 52,400 units in February, BYD's highest sales in the month, contributing 27 percent of all its passenger car sales.
Song family models include the hybrid Song Pro and Song Max, both of which are part of BYD's Dynasty lineup.
The family also includes the hybrid Song Plus DM-i and the all-electric Song Plus EV, which are part of BYD's Ocean series.
BYD announced today that the offer is limited to these two Song models in the Ocean series, as well as the Seal.
BYD's Seal sold 7,754 units in February, which was up 17.17 percent from 5,043 units in January. The model went on sale on July 29, 2022.
Since the end of last year, several EV makers have cut prices, including Tesla and XPeng (NYSE: XPEV).
Earlier this month, authorities in central China's Hubei province joined forces with a number of local car companies to offer subsidies for consumers to purchase vehicles, with some models offering subsidies of up to RMB 90,000, marking the open entry of fuel models into the price war.
The first to participate are the Dongfeng Motor family of brands, including Dongfeng Honda, Dongfeng Nissan, Dongfeng Citroen, Dongfeng Peugeot and Dongfeng Aeolus, with the Dongfeng Citroen C6 offering a combined subsidy of up to RMB 90,000.
