NIO ET5 ranks 7th in top-selling premium sedan list in China with 6,437 Mar sales

The models ahead of the ET5 are all from German luxury automakers Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi.  |  US | NIO HK | NIO SG

The ET5, which has been the main seller for NIO (NYSE: NIO) in recent months, saw its position unchanged in a premium sedan ranking last month.

With 6,437 retail sales in March, the ET5 ranked No. 7 in China for premium sedan sales starting at more than 300,000 yuan ($43,560), according to a list released today by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

The ranking is the same as in February, when the ET5 sold 6,471 units at retail, as previously reported by CnEVPost.

The ET5 is the least expensive of the NIO product array, with a starting price of RMB 328,000. Deliveries of the model begin on September 30, 2022.

NIO delivered 10,378 vehicles in March, including 3,203 SUVs, and 7,175 sedans, according to figures the company announced on April 1.

Considering that NIO's sedans are only ET7 and ET5, this means that ET7 delivered 738 units in March.

The ET7 delivered 649 units in February. Earlier today, NIO announced that in addition to the new ES6, it will launch the 2023 ET7 on the first day of the Shanghai auto show on April 18.

Except for the ET5, none of the other models in the premium sedan sales ranking are battery-electric vehicles. The models with higher sales than the ET5 are all from German luxury car companies Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi.

The Audi A6L topped the list, with 15,614 retail sales in March, while the Mercedes-Benz C-Class ranked second with 14,145 units and the BMW 3 Series third with 13,924 units.

In January-March, the NIO ET5 ranked seventh with 18,703 units sold at retail. The model was No. 6 on the January-February list with 12,266 units sold.

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class was the best-selling premium sedan in China in the first three months with 40,261 units sold. The Audi A6L ranked second with 40,246 units. The BMW 3 Series ranked 3rd with 37,151 units.

As in March, the premium sedans that sold more than the ET5 in January-March were all from German luxury car companies.

NIO to launch new ET7 at Shanghai auto show besides new ES6

This is the first time has mentioned the existence of the new ET7, after rumors began to emerge last month.  |  NIO US | NIO HK | NIO SG

NIO (NYSE: NIO) will launch the new ET7 at the Shanghai auto show next week, in addition to the launch of the new ES6.

"At Auto Shanghai 2023, we are bringing the NIO House to the show floor once again," the electric vehicle (EV) maker announced today.

The full range of NIO models equipped with the Banyan intelligent system will be presented, the new ES6 will debut and the 2023 ET7 will be officially launched, NIO said.

Banyan is the software architecture for NIO's NT 2.0 platform-based models, and the company's NT 1.0 platform-based models use a software architecture called Aspen.

The upcoming biennial Shanghai auto show will be held from April 18-27, with press days from April 18-19, professional visitor days from April 20-21, and general public admission from April 22-27.

The show will be held at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai, and NIO's booth is located in Hall 6.1, Stand 6A01.

The N-Box augmented entertainment console and AR glasses developed by NIO will be equipped on the EC7 for the first time for the public to experience, according to the company.

This is the first time NIO has confirmed the existence of the new ET7, after rumors began to emerge last month.

At the end of last month, some local media reported that the current NIO ET7 had been discontinued and that the facelift would be optimized for exterior and interior details.

On March 28, an image circulating on social media Xiaohongshu showed that the 2023 ET7 will have a new gold exterior option and will be available with a tow hook option.

Inside, the improved ET7 will have several details optimized, including the seats, wireless charging panel power, and low-speed beep, according to the information in the image.

The NIO ET7 was launched at the NIO Day 2020 event on January 9, 2021, the company's first sedan, with deliveries beginning on March 28, 2022.

Deliveries of the ET7 remained around 3,000 units per month for the vast majority of the second half of last year, but the figures slipped to 1,379 units in December.

Regarding the new ES6, NIO mentioned on April 1 that the model will be unveiled at the Shanghai auto show.

Notably, like the ES7, which is known as the EL7 in Europe, the new ES6 will also be known as the new EL6 in international markets, according to a previous NIO press release.

NIO stops ET7 production, to launch facelift this year, report says

A revamped version of the ET7 is expected to be optimized for exterior and interior details and will likely be unveiled during the Shanghai auto show, according to a local media report.

NIO (NYSE: NIO) is rumored to have stopped production of its flagship sedan ET7, which would not be surprising if it turns out to be true, as the NIO App stopped showing the wait time for the model earlier this month after months of low deliveries.

The current NIO ET7 has been discontinued and its annual facelift will be launched within the year, local automotive media D1EV reported late last night, adding that a revamped version of the ET7 is expected to have optimized exterior and interior details and will probably be unveiled during the Shanghai auto show next month.

The current ET7 has some minor interior issues, and the revamped version will be optimized and will also further enhance the texture of the interior, the report said, citing a salesperson at an NIO store in Beijing.

There is no way to know what specific changes will be made, but the salesperson mentioned that the overall texture of the upgraded ET7's interior will be closer to that of the ES7, according to the report.

NIO is no longer accepting orders for customized models of the ET7, and consumers who buy the model now will only have the option of available stock cars, the report said.

As is NIO's practice, the company is expected to offer upgrade options for ET7 vehicles that have already been delivered, according to the report.

The NIO ET7, the company's first sedan, was launched at the NIO Day 2020 event on January 9, 2021, with deliveries beginning March 28, 2022.

In April 2022, the ET7's first full month of delivery, the sedan was ranked No. 10 on the China Passenger Car Association's (CPCA) list of premium sedans with a starting price above RMB 300,000 ($43,570) with 693 units sold at retail.

With increased capacity, ET7 sales continued to grow after deliveries began and reached a monthly high of 4,349 units in June 2022.

Deliveries of the ET7 remained around 3,000 units per month for the vast majority of the second half of last year, but the figures slipped to 1,379 units in December, missing the CPCA's top-tier sedan sales ranking for the first time.

In January and February of this year, NIO ET7 deliveries slipped further to 521 and 649 units respectively, according to data from the CPCA monitored by CnEVPost.

On March 1, when asked on an earnings call whether the ET7 would have a revamped version this year, William Li, NIO's founder, chairman, and CEO, did not give a positive answer but said that the company had been working on the product iterations and improvements and that it would communicate in a timely manner.

Long-time NIO follower @肉肉爸比ev hinted on March 10 on Weibo that a revamped version of the ET7 is not far from launch.

On March 13, the NIO App stopped showing the expected delivery time for the ET7, previously the wait time for the model was about 3 weeks.

NIO App no longer shows ET7 wait time as talk of revamped model heats up

The ET7 delivered around 3,000 units per month for most of the second half of 2022, but only 521 and 649 units were delivered in January and February of this year, respectively.

NIO US | NIO HK | NIO SG

(From left to right: EC7, EC6, ET7, ET5. Screenshot on March 13.)

Past experience has shown that whenever NIO's mobile app stops showing the wait time for a model, it means that the improved version of the model is not far from release.

The NIO App stopped showing the expected delivery date for the electric vehicle maker's flagship sedan, the ET7, starting today, the first time the company's model wait times have changed in the past month.

The NIO App is currently showing eight models, including the old ES8, ES6 and EC6 based on the NT 1.0 platform and the new ES8, ES7, EC7, ET7 and ET5 based on the NT 2.0 platform.

The EC7 coupe SUV and the new ES8 were launched at NIO Day 2022 held on December 24, 2022, with deliveries to begin in May and June 2023, respectively.

Wait times for all other NIO models remain unchanged today. The last change to this information was on February 14, when the wait times for both the ES7 and ET7 changed from the previous 3-4 weeks to about 3 weeks, and for the ET5 from about 3 weeks to 2-3 weeks.

(From left to right: All-new ES8, old ES8, ES7, ES6. Screenshot on March 13.)

NIO's latest move comes at a time when discussions on social media about a revamped version of the ET7 are on the rise.

In several WeChat groups where CnEVPost is present, some NIO followers are already anticipating a facelift of the sedan one year since deliveries began.

Longtime NIO follower and auto blogger @肉肉爸比ev hinted on March 10 that a revamped version of the ET7 is not far away.

"Are people that concerned about the ET7 facelift? Let's just say the 2023 ET7 may be coming soon," the blogger wrote.

Changes to the new ET7 will likely not be significant, and NIO may offer upgrade options to owners of the current model, the blogger said, adding that consumers interested in the ET7 may choose to wait and see in the short term.

NIO launched the ET7, its first sedan, at the NIO Day 2020 event on January 9, 2021, with deliveries starting March 28, 2022.

In April 2022, the ET7's first full month of delivery, the sedan was ranked No. 10 in a list of premium sedans starting at more than RMB 300,000 ($43,440) by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) with 693 retail sales.

With increased capacity, ET7 sales continued to grow after deliveries began and reached a new monthly high of 4,349 units in June 2022.

Deliveries of the ET7 remained around 3,000 units per month for the vast majority of the second half of last year, but in December deliveries slipped to 1,379 units, missing the CPCA's ranking of premium sedan sales for the first time.

NIO stopped publishing ET7 figures in its monthly delivery figures this year, but figures released by the CPCA show that the sedan delivered 521 units in January and 649 units in February.

The CPCA's figures come from the numbers reported by carmakers, and the ET7 sales figures in its monthly rankings are consistent with the available figures previously published by NIO.

NIO ET5 drops 1 spot in ranking of top-selling premium sedans in China

ET5 ranks No. 7 with 6,471 retail sales in February, surpassed by Audi A4L with 6,935 sales.

NIO.US | 9866.HK | NIO.SG

NIO's (NYSE: NIO) ET5 electric sedan slipped in a China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) sales ranking of premium sedans, as it was passed by the Audi A4L last month.

With 6,471 retail sales in February, the ET5 ranked No. 7 in China for premium sedan sales starting at more than 300,000 yuan ($43,080), according to a list released today by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

The ET5 ranking dropped one spot from January as the previously No. 7 Audi A4L outsold the ET5 with 6,935 units in February.

In January, the ET5 ranked No. 6 on the list with 5,795 retail sales, while the Audi A4L was ranked No. 7 with 4,943 units.

The ET5 is the cheapest in the NIO product array, with a starting price of RMB 328,000. Deliveries of the model began on September 30, 2022.

NIO delivered 12,157 vehicles in February, including 5,037 SUVs, and 7,120 sedans.

Considering that NIO's sedans include only the ET7 and ET5, this means that ET7 delivered 649 units in February.

The ET7 has failed to make the list for the past two months, and the flagship NIO sedan had 1,379 deliveries in December, when it ranked No. 10.

The Audi A6L was the best-selling premium sedan in China in February, with 12,167 units sold, and the top spot on the list in January was the BMW 5 Series.

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Mercedes-Benz C-Class came in second and third with 12,153 and 11,869 units respectively in February.

The BMW 5 Series and BMW 3 Series ranked fourth and fifth in February with 9,609 and 8,868 units respectively. The BMW 3 Series BEV ranked 8th with 2,976 units.

In January-February, the NIO ET5 ranked 6th with 12,266 units sold.

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class was the best-selling premium sedan in China in the first two months, with 26,696 units sold. The BMW 5 Series ranked second with 25,737 units.

The Audi A6L was No. 3 with 24,632 units, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class was No. 4 with 17,762 units and the BMW 3 Series was No. 5 with 16,627 units.

The Audi A4L ranked 7th with 11,878 units sold in January-February and the BMW 3 Series BEV ranked 8th with 6,600 units.
