Tesla launches EVs in Thailand amid competition from cheaper brands

Tesla Inc launched two electric vehicle (EV) models in Thailand on Wednesday, marking its first foray into the regional autos hub that has long been dominated by Japanese manufacturers. The launch of two EVs with prices ranging between 1.7 million baht to 2.5 million baht (($48,447 to $71,205) comes as Thailand makes a push for EV adoption and production by offering tax cuts and subsidies. The U.S. automaker plans to start selling its EVs in Southeast Asia's second-biggest economy via online channels, with deliveries set to start early next year.

Automakers, South Korea urge U.S. to tap commercial EV tax credit

Many automakers and the South Korean government are urging the Biden administration to tap a commercial electric vehicle tax credit to boost consumer EV access, a plan that could help ease concerns over a climate bill approved in Congress. The $430 billion U.S. Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) passed in August ended $7,500 consumer tax credits for electric vehicles assembled outside North America, sparking anger from South Korea, the European Union, Japan and others. Some automakers say a lesser noticed IRA provision for "commercial clean vehicles" could be used to boost EV manufacturers and address foreign concerns.

Honda to begin selling mini-commercial EV trucks in spring 2024

Honda Motor Co said on Wednesday it would begin selling micro-sized commercial electric trucks in 2024, as part of its effort to electrify its vehicle lineups. Honda said earlier this year it would introduce commercial mini-EV models around the 1-million-yen ($7,275.90) price range in early 2024. ($1 = 137.4400 yen)
