China NEV insurance registrations for week ending Jul 2: BYD 54,000, Nio ES6 1,900

The Model Y was the best-selling new energy SUV and the Model 3 was the best-selling new energy sedan in China last week.

(NASDAQ: LI) yesterday shared the insurance registrations of some of the car companies last week to showcase its leadership among the new car-making brands.

Local auto media outlet Dongchedi then shared the rankings they produced, providing more details.

It should be noted that the two shared slightly different data on a few of the car companies' numbers, although the differences were minor, which may have to do with their rounding practices.

In the week between June 26 and July 2, (OTCMKTS: BYDDY) had the highest number of new energy vehicle (NEV) insurance registrations in China at 54,000, according to what Dongchedi shared.

Tesla was in second place at 17,300 units. Tesla was 17,400 units in the data shared by Li Auto yesterday.

was in third place with 11,600 units last week, and Li Auto was fourth with 6,500 units.

Volkswagen's NEV sales were 3,900 units last week, ranking 8th, according to Dongchedi.

When considering only Chinese brands, BYD, GAC Aion and Li Auto were the top three, with (NYSE: NIO) in sixth place.

The Tesla Model Y was the best-selling new energy SUV in China last week with 10,800 units sold. BYD Yuan Plus and BYD Song Plus DM-i were second and third, respectively, with 6,200 and 5,700 units sold.

Li Auto's Li L7 sold 2,800 units last week, ranking 7th.

Nio's ES6 was No. 10 at 1,900 units. The new ES6 was officially launched on May 24 and still seems to be in the capacity ramp-up phase.

The Tesla Model 3 sold 6,400 units last week and was the best-selling new energy sedan in China, according to data shared by Dongchedi.

BYD Dolphin came in second with 6,100 units and GAC Aion S was third with 6,000 units.

China NEV wholesale at about 740,000 in Jun, CPCA estimates show

In the first half of the year, wholesale sales of passenger NEVs in China are expected to be 3.53 million units, up 44 percent year-on-year.

China's wholesale sales of passenger new energy vehicles (NEVs) are expected to be 740,000 units in June, up 10 percent from May and up 30 percent year-on-year, the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) said in a report today.

In May, the 12 manufacturers with more than 10,000 NEVs sold at wholesale contributed 82.8 percent of all wholesale sales, the CPCA said.

These companies are expected to sell 611,000 units in June, and the normal structure would put China's June wholesale sales of passenger NEVs at around 740,000 units, the CPCA said.

In the January-June period, China's wholesale sales of passenger NEVs are expected to be 3.53 million units, up 44 percent from a year earlier, according to the report.

In China, NEVs include battery electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids and fuel cell vehicles.

China's passenger NEV market maintained strong growth in June, continuing May's trend with sales reaching an all-time high, the CPCA said.

With the launch of a large number of competitive new products and increased promotions in the second quarter, consumers' enthusiasm for buying was gradually released, the report said.

Manufacturers and dealers are actively carrying out various promotional activities to achieve their semi-annual targets, and coupled with local government subsidies, NEV retail sales continue to improve, the CPCA said.

Passenger vehicle sales in China are expected to be 23.5 million units in 2023, with 8.5 million units of NEVs sold and penetration expected to reach 36 percent, the CPCA said, repeating its previous forecast.

For the full year 2022, China's wholesale sales of passenger NEVs are expected to be 6.5 million units, up 96.3 percent year-on-year.

China NEV insurance registrations for week ending Jul 2: Tesla 17,400, Li Auto 6,500, Nio 4,100

's sales of 4,100 units last week are second only to in the table.

Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI) shares last week's sales of major new car makers in China, showing how it and its major peers fared.

For the week of June 26 to July 2, Li Auto sold 6,500 units, continuing to top the sales chart for China's new car-making brands, the company said today on Weibo.

Li Auto did not explain on what basis the weekly sales were measured, but apparently they were insurance registrations. The company had suspended sharing those numbers in May, but has since resumed sharing them.

In June, Li Auto exceeded 30,000 monthly deliveries for the first time, making it the fifth luxury brand to exceed 30,000 monthly deliveries after Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi and , and the only Chinese luxury brand among them, it said.

In July, Li Auto will challenge higher sales targets to become the luxury car brand of choice for more families, the company said.

Li Auto released data on July 1 showing it delivered a record 32,575 vehicles in June, the first time it has surpassed the 30,000 mark.

In the second quarter, Li Auto delivered 86,533 vehicles, up 201.65 percent year-on-year and up 64.56 percent from the first quarter, exceeding the upper end of its previously provided guidance range of 76,000 to 81,000 vehicles.

In the first half of the year, Li Auto delivered 139,117 vehicles, up 130.31 percent year-on-year, surpassing last year's full-year deliveries of 133,246.

Nio (NYSE: NIO) sold 4,100 units last week, second only to Li Auto among China's new car-making brands.

Nio delivered 10,707 vehicles in June, up 73.96 percent from 6,155 in May, although down 17.39 percent from 12,961 in the same month last year.

The deliveries included 6,383 SUVs, and 4,324 sedans, Nio said on July 1, without disclosing figures for specific models.

In the second quarter, Nio delivered 23,520 vehicles, down 6.14 percent from a year ago and down 24.23 percent from the first quarter. The deliveries were slightly above the lower end of the guidance range it provided on June 9 of 23,000 to 25,000 vehicles.

In the first half of the year, Nio delivered 54,561 vehicles, an increase of 7.35 percent year-on-year.

Nio's delivery rebound in June was helped by the start of deliveries of several new models, especially the new ES6.

The company launched the new ES6, based on the NT 2.0 platform, in China on May 24, with deliveries starting on launch night.

On June 15, Nio launched the ET5 Touring in China, with deliveries starting on June 16.

On June 28, Nio began deliveries in China for the new ES8, the flagship SUV launched on Nio Day 2022 on December 24, 2022.

Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) sold 17,400 units last week, ranking fourth among premium brands, according to the table shared by Li Auto.

The top-selling premium brands in China last week continued to be German luxury brands BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz, with 20,800, 20,500 and 19,600 respectively.

Li Auto was No. 6 in premium brand sales, behind Cadillac. Nio was No. 9, behind Volvo and Lexus.

Leapmotor was at 3,400 last week, at 3,200, at 3,100 and (NYSE: XPEV) at 2,700.

Tesla delivers record 466,140 vehicles globally in Q2

Model 3 and Model Y delivered 446,915 units worldwide in the second quarter, beating market expectations of 437,400 and contributing 96 percent of deliveries.

Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) saw another record quarter of deliveries.

The US electric vehicle (EV) giant delivered 466,140 vehicles worldwide in the second quarter, up 83.02 percent year-on-year and up 10.23 percent from 422,875 in the first quarter, according to its overnight announcement.

It was also a new record for Tesla's EV deliveries and higher than the 448,400 units Wall Street analysts had expected.

Tesla's cheaper Model 3 and Model Y delivered 446,915 units worldwide in the second quarter, above market expectations of 437,400 units, contributing 96 percent of deliveries. A total of 19,255 Model S and Model X units were delivered, above expectations of 14,600 units.

Tesla produced 479,700 vehicles in the second quarter, including 460,211 Model 3 and Model Y, and 19,489 Model S with Model X.

Tesla's production and delivery gap was 13,560 units in the second quarter, down from 18,000 units in the previous quarter.

Tesla cut prices globally earlier this year, and its starting price for the Model 3 sedan came to an all-time low after it cut prices in China on January 6.

In early May, the company raised the prices of all Model 3s and Model Ys in China, all by 2,000 yuan ($275), an increase of less than 1 percent. The move was thought to be more aimed at dampening consumers' wait-and-see sentiment at the time.

In China, Tesla has a factory in Shanghai that produces the Model 3 and Model Y. It's the largest Tesla factory in the world, with an annual capacity of about 1.1 million units a year.

Tesla does not officially announce its deliveries in China, though the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) publishes those numbers every month.

Tesla's retail sales in China in April and May were 39,956 and 42,508, respectively, and its Shanghai plant exported 35,886 and 35,187 units in the two months, according to the CPCA.

The company's June sales figures in China are expected to be available in a few days.

(OTCMKTS: BYDDY), one of Tesla's main competitors in China, delivered 703,561 new energy vehicles (NEVs) in the second quarter, including 700,244 passenger cars and 3,317 commercial vehicles, according to data released yesterday.

BYD's passenger vehicle sales in the second quarter included 352,163 battery electric vehicles (BEVs) similar to Tesla vehicles and 348,081 plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs).

BYD sells record 253,046 NEVs in Jun, sales in H1 exceed 1.25 million

In the first half of the year, sold 1,255,637 NEVs, up 95.78 percent year-on-year.

BYD (OTCMKTS: BYDDY) saw yet another record sales.

BYD sold 253,046 new energy vehicles (NEVs) in June, up 88.79 percent from 134,036 units a year ago and up 5.34 percent from 240,220 units in May, according to data released today.

The company discontinued production and sales of vehicles powered entirely by internal combustion engines in March last year and switched to focus on producing plug-in hybrids and pure electric vehicles.

BYD's NEVs include passenger cars as well as commercial vehicles, with sales of 251,685 passenger NEVs in June, up 109.39 percent from 133,762 units a year ago and up 5.27 percent from 239,092 units in May.

BYD's commercial NEVs sold 1,361 units in June, up 396.72 percent from 274 units in the same month last year and up 20.66 percent from 1,128 units in May.

Among the passenger NEVs, battery electric vehicles (BEVs) sold 128,196 units, up 84.34 percent from 69,544 units in the same month last year and up 7.18 percent from 119,603 units in May.

Its passenger plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) were 123,489 units, up 92.30 percent from 64,218 units in the same month last year and up 3.35 percent from 119,489 units in May.

In June, BYD sold 10,536 NEVs in overseas markets, up 3.26 percent from 10,203 units in May.

The company first announced overseas sales figures for NEVs in July 2022.

In addition to being China's largest NEV company, BYD is also the country's second-largest manufacturer of power batteries.

BYD's installed power and storage battery capacity in June was about 11.816 GWh, up 72.27 percent from 6.859 GWh in the same month last year and up 2.85 percent from 11.489 GWh in May.

In the second quarter, BYD's NEV sales were 703,561 units, up 98.17 percent year-on-year and up 27.44 percent from the first quarter.

Its passenger NEV sales in the second quarter were 700,244 units, up 98.13 percent year-on-year and 27.80 percent from the first quarter.

Its passenger BEV sales in the second quarter were 352,163 units, up 95.32 percent year-on-year and up 33.07 percent from the first quarter.

Passenger PHEV sales were 348,081 units in the second quarter, up 101.06 percent year-on-year and 22.88 percent from the first quarter.

In the first half of the year, BYD's NEV sales were 1,255,637 units, up 95.78 percent year-on-year.

BYD aims to sell at least 3 million vehicles this year and strives to reach 3.6 million, the company's chairman and president Wang Chuanfu said in late March.

The figures announced today mean that BYD will need to sell an average of about 290,000 units per month in the second half of the year if it is to reach its annual sales target of 3 million units.

Neta delivers 12,132 vehicles in Jun, including 1,201 overseas

delivered 36,241 vehicles in the second quarter, up 9.89 percent from a year earlier and up 38.45 percent from the first quarter.

Neta Auto, Hozon Auto's electric vehicle (EV) brand, saw deliveries slip last month after four months of sequential growth.

Neta delivered 12,132 vehicles in June, down 6.88 percent from 13,029 in May and down 7.79 percent from 13,157 in the same month last year, according to data released today.

June deliveries included 1,201 vehicles delivered overseas, according to Neta, which is the first time it has released overseas delivery figures.

Neta's electric sports car, the Neta GT, delivered 1,298 units in June, according to the company, which did not disclose figures for other models.

The company delivered 36,241 vehicles in the second quarter, up 9.89 percent from a year earlier and up 38.45 percent from the first quarter.

In the first half of the year, Neta delivered 62,417 vehicles, down 1.13 percent from 63,131 units in the same period last year.

Neta has been seen as a budget EV maker since its inception in October 2014, as its vehicles have been priced primarily to target the lower end of the market over the past few years. The Neta V and Neta U currently start at RMB 83,900 (11,570) and RMB 118,800 in China, respectively.

The Neta S, its first effort at the premium end of the market, hit the market in China on July 31, 2022, with a current starting price range of RMB 202,800 to RMB 341,800.

On the first day of the Shanghai auto show on April 18, Neta officially launched the Neta GT sports car for a starting price of RMB 178,800 to RMB 227,800. Deliveries of the model began on May 13.

Neta announced its strategy to enter overseas markets in November 2021, with the first stop being Thailand.

The right-hand drive version of the Neta V was launched in Thailand on August 24, 2022, its first model offered there.

On March 10, 2023 Neta laid the foundation stone for its factory in Bangkok, Thailand, which will be its main manufacturing base for building right-hand drive electric vehicles for export to ASEAN.

On May 11, Neta announced its entry into Malaysia, officially launching the right-hand drive version of the Neta V for local consumers at the largest auto show in the region.

On June 6, Neta announced that 4,000 Neta EVs were shipped abroad, the latest new batch after 3,600 units were sent to overseas markets in March.

Leapmotor delivered a record number of vehicles last month, as the company's move to add extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) offerings appears to have worked to boost sales.

The company delivered 13,209 vehicles in June, surpassing the previous record of 12,525 vehicles last August, according to figures released today.

That's up 17.32 percent from 11,259 units a year ago and up 9.55 percent from 12,058 units in May.

Leapmotor delivered 33,993 vehicles in the second quarter, up 11.76 percent year-on-year and up 223.47 percent from the first quarter.

In the first half of the year, the company delivered 44,502 vehicles, down 14.41 percent from 51,994 in the same period last year.

By the end of June, Leapmotor had delivered 206,171 vehicles since its inception, according to data monitored by CnEVPost.

In June, Leapmotor's flagship C-series model delivered more than 11,600 units, contributing more than 87 percent of total deliveries, the company said today.

Of the total, more than 8,900 units of the flagship SUV model, the C11 series, were delivered, it said.

Founded in 2015 and headquartered in Zhejiang, Leapmotor's models on sale include the mini vehicle T03, the coupe model S01, the flagship SUV C11, and the flagship sedan C01.

Leapmotor has been seen as a budget EV maker for the past few years, with sales mainly contributed by the inexpensive T03, which currently has a starting price range of RMB 59,900 ($8,260) to RMB 89,900.

The C11, which went on sale September 29, 2021, and the C01, which went on sale September 28, 2022, are Leapmotor's flagship models, targeting the RMB 150,000 to RMB 300,000 range.

Deliveries of Leapmotor declined significantly starting in the fourth quarter of last year, falling to 1,139 units by January of this year, the lowest since March 2021.

To reverse the sales decline, Leapmotor announced plans last year to release an EREV model to target the market for larger plug-in hybrids. All of Leapmotor's previous models were battery electric vehicles (BEVs).

On March 1, Leapmotor officially launched the C11 EREV and offered 2023 models for the previously available BEVs, allowing for lower starting prices. Deliveries of the C11 EREV began in March.

Leapmotor will release an EREV variant of its flagship sedan, the C01, in July-August of this year, the company's founder, chairman and CEO Zhu Jiangming said previously.

Starting with the B-series models, all future new Leapmotor models will be offered in both BEV as well as EREV versions, Zhu said.

In late March, Leapmotor management said the company was targeting 200,000 units in 2023, nearly double the number of units sold in 2022.

Leapmotor delivered 111,168 vehicles in 2022, up 157.80 percent from 43,121 in 2021.

Nio deliveries rebound to 10,707 units in Jun as new models bring relief

Nio (NYSE: NIO) deliveries rebounded to more than 10,000 units as new models, including the new ES6, ET5 Touring and new ES8, began to be delivered.

The electric vehicle (EV) maker delivered 10,707 vehicles in June, up 73.96 percent from 6,155 in May, although down 17.39 percent from 12,961 in the same month last year, according to data released today.

The delivery included 6,383 SUVs, and 4,324 sedans, Nio said, without disclosing figures for specific models.

In the second quarter, Nio delivered 23,520 vehicles, down 6.14 percent from 25,059 in the same period last year and down 24.23 percent from 31,041 in the first quarter.

The second quarter deliveries were slightly above the lower end of the guidance range of 23,000 to 25,000 vehicles it provided on June 9. Nio guided at the time that total revenue for the second quarter would be between RMB 8.742 billion ($1.2 billion) and RMB 9.37 billion.

In the first half of the year, Nio delivered 54,561 vehicles, up 7.35 percent year-on-year.

As of June 30, Nio's cumulative vehicle deliveries reached 344,117 units.

Nio management previously mentioned that the company's goal is to double deliveries this year from last year's 122,486 units.

The figures released today mean that Nio will need to deliver an average of about 32,000 vehicles per month in the second half of the year if it is to achieve that goal.

Nio's delivery rebound in June was helped by the start of deliveries of several new models, particularly the new ES6, which is crucial to it.

The company launched the new ES6, based on the NT 2.0 platform, in China on May 24, and its deliveries began that night.

The new ES6 is currently available in only one version in China, starting at RMB 338,000 including batteries, the cheapest Nio SUV.

NIO's overall new order intake hit a year-to-date high, boosted by the launch of the new ES6, Morgan Stanley analyst Tim Hsiao's team said in a research note sent to investors on June 5.

On June 15, Nio launched the ET5 Touring in China, priced exactly the same as the regular ET5 sedan, which currently starts at RMB 298,000. Deliveries of the model began on June 16.

Hours after the ET5 Touring was launched in China, Nio rolled out the model as well as the EL6, known as the new ES6 in China, in Europe .

Both models will be available in Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark and Norway, and deliveries will both begin in the fourth quarter in Europe.

On June 28, Nio began deliveries in China of the new ES8, the flagship SUV launched on Nio Day 2022, December 24, 2022.

Xpeng delivers 8,620 vehicles in Jun, Q2 deliveries exceed guidance range

Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) deliveries continued to improve modestly ahead of the start of deliveries of the new SUV G6.

The electric vehicle (EV) maker delivered 8,620 vehicles in June, up 14.84 percent from May and its fifth straight month of improvements sequentially, despite a 43.64 percent decline from a year ago, data released today showed.

Deliveries of Xpeng's flagship sedan P7 series rose 17 percent in June from the previous month, it said, without disclosing specific figures.

The company delivered 23,205 vehicles in the second quarter, up 27.29 percent from the first quarter but down 32.59 percent from the previous year.

The second-quarter deliveries were above the upper end of Xpeng's previous guidance range of 21,000 to 22,000 vehicles. It guided for second quarter revenue of between RMB 4.5 billion ($620 million) and RMB 4.7 billion.

In the first half of the year, Xpeng delivered 41,435 vehicles, a 39.93 percent decrease from 68,983 vehicles in the same period last year.

As of June 30, Xpeng's cumulative deliveries since inception were 300,145 vehicles, surpassing the 300,000 mark, data monitored by CnEVPost showed.

Xpeng launched its new SUV, the G6, in China on June 29 at a price significantly lower than its main competitor, the (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model Y.

The company is offering five versions of the G6 with starting prices of RMB 209,900, RMB 229,900, RMB 234,900, RMB 254,900 and RMB 276,900, respectively.

The starting price is RMB 15,100 lower than Xpeng's G6 pre-sale starting price of RMB 225,000 announced on June 9, and RMB 54,000 lower than the Model Y's starting price of RMB 263,900 in China.

Xpeng chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng said at the G6 launch event that the G6 had more than 35,000 pre-sale orders as of June 28 since pre-sale began on June 9.

The G6 is expected to become the top-selling smart electric SUV priced at the RMB 250,000 level in China within two months, he said.

In an interview with local media on June 30, Mr. He said the monthly sales target for the G6 is at least 10,000 units.

Initial deliveries of the G6 are set to begin this month, and display vehicles have arrived at showrooms nationwide and are ready for test drives, Xpeng said today.

Xpeng's ADAS feature, XNGP, will be available immediately upon delivery of all G6 Max versions, it said, adding that it plans to roll out its "AI Valet Driver" feature for all XNGP-equipped vehicles beginning in the fourth quarter.

The "AI Valet Driver" mode allows users to customize smart driving routes to their preferences in multiple Chinese cities, making driving in everyday driving scenarios safer and more efficient, the company said.

GAC Aion sells 45,013 vehicles in Jun, 4th straight month over 40,000

The Hyper GT, the second model of 's Hyper brand, will be launched on July 3.

GAC Aion, the electric vehicle (EV) subsidiary of GAC Group, sold a record 45,013 vehicles in June, the fourth consecutive month above the 40,000 mark, according to figures released today.

That's up 86.71 percent from 24,109 units a year ago and basically flat from 45,003 units in May.

In the second quarter, GAC Aion sold 131,028 vehicles, up 136.61 percent from a year ago and up 63.16 percent from the first quarter.

It sold 211,336 units in the first half of the year, up 110.81 percent from 100,251 units in the same period last year.

The Hyper GT, the second model of GAC Aion's Hyper brand, will be launched on July 3, it said today.

The Hyper GT is a mid-to-large-size coupe that was originally unveiled at the Guangzhou auto show late last year. It measures 4,880 mm in length, 1,885 mm in width and 1,455 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,910 mm.

The previous production car with the lowest drag coefficient was the EQS sedan announced by Mercedes-Benz in 2021, with a drag coefficient of just 0.20 Cd.

On April 16, GAC Aion began pre-sales of the Hyper GT with a price range of RMB 219,900 ($30,320) to RMB 339,900.

Consumers can purchase the car using a battery rental model similar to , which reduces the price of the car by RMB 70,000 and requires a monthly rental fee of RMB 980.

On September 15, 2022 GAC Aion announced its new premium brand Hyper to enter the higher end of the market, with the first model being a supercar, the Hyper SSR.

GAC Aion is offering two versions of the Hyper SSR, with a pre-sale price of RMB 1,286,000 for the regular version, capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.3 seconds.

The other version, Hyper SSR Ultimate, is priced at RMB 1,686,000 and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 1.9 seconds.

The model, the fastest accelerating car on the planet, will begin mass production and delivery in October 2023, GAC Aion said at the time.
