BYD (OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has launched the Dolphin in Singapore as it introduces the compact electric vehicle (EV) to more markets.
The Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) giant held a launch event for the BYD Dolphin with Singapore dealer Vantage Automotive on July 3, its second all-electric passenger car model offered in the Southeast Asian country after the Atto 3, according to an announcement from the company today.
BYD launched the Atto 3 in Singapore in 2022, and the model was the top-selling all-electric vehicle in the region in the January-May period, according to James Ng, managing director of BYD Singapore.
The BYD Dolphin is expected to be popular with customers of all ages in Singapore and will enter the lives of more Singaporeans, he said.
The BYD Dolphin, which went on sale on August 29, 2021, is an all-electric compact car with a current starting price of RMB 116,800 ($16,120) in China.
The model is the first to be built on BYD's pure electric platform e-Platform 3.0 and is equipped with a blade battery.
The BYD Dolphin currently has a starting price of S$156,888 ($115,990) in Singapore, a price that includes COE (Certificate of Entitlement), which gives residents the right to own and use the vehicle in Singapore.
This is the latest market that the Dolphin has entered, with the model entering the Hong Kong market in late May and Australia and Brazil in late June.
BYD sold 253,046 NEVs in June, up 88.79 percent from 134,036 units in the same month last year and up 5.34 percent from 240,220 units in May, according to data released earlier this month.
In June, BYD sold 10,536 NEVs in overseas markets, up 3.26 percent from 10,203 units in May.

BYD (OTCMKTS: BYDDY) is continuing to bring more models to more countries.
The Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker launched the Dolphin in Brazil on June 28, its fifth model in the country after the Tang EV, Han EV, Yuan Plus EV and Song Plus DM-i.
The Dolphin is BYD's first model based on the e-Platform 3.0 and has a starting price of 149,800 Brazilian reais ($31,020) in Brazil.
As of June 29 local time, 300 BYD Dolphins have been sold in Brazil, the company said today.
BYD launched the Dolphin in China on August 29, 2021, and currently offers three versions in China with starting prices of RMB 116,800 ($16,100), RMB 123,800, and RMB 136,800, respectively.
"BYD is committed to offering more competitive new energy models for the Brazilian consumer. We are confident that BYD Dolphin is an excellent choice and can be the gateway for those who want to own an electric car," said Tyler Li, general manager of BYD Brazil.
In the passenger car segment, BYD has already established 24 offline dealership stores in Brazil and expects that number to reach 100 by the end of this year.
BYD also announced today that it officially entered the South African passenger car market with a brand launch event in the country on June 29.
BYD launched the Atto 3 in South Africa with a starting price of 768,000 South African rand ($40,630).
The Atto 3, known as the BYD Yuan Plus in China, is the NEV maker's first model built for the global market and is already available in several markets, including Japan, Australia and Singapore.
The BYD Yuan Plus has a starting price range of RMB 139,800 to RMB 167,800 in China.
BYD sold 240,220 NEVs in May, including 30,679 units of the Dolphin and 35,815 units of the Yuan family, according to figures released earlier this month.
In May, BYD sold 10,203 NEVs in overseas markets, down 31.19 percent from 14,827 units in April.

BYD (OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has launched another electric vehicle (EV) in Australia after the Atto 3.
BYD and Australian partner EV Direct officially launched the Dolphin locally at a launch event on June 22, according to a press release from the Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) giant yesterday.
The car is available in 3 versions in Australia, with starting prices of A$38,890 ($26,000), A$44,890 and A$49,990 respectively.
For reference, BYD Dolphin is offered in three versions in China with starting prices of RMB 116,800 ($16,200), RMB 123,800 and RMB 136,800 respectively.
The BYD Dolphin is an A0-class pure electric vehicle with a length, width and height of 4,290 mm, 1,770 mm and 1,570 mm, respectively, and a wheelbase of 2,700 mm.
The model will enrich BYD's product matrix in the Australian market and help the country achieve a green future, BYD said.
BYD launched the Dolphin in China on August 29, 2021, the first product in its Ocean lineup and the first model based on its e-Platform 3.0.
BYD sold 240,220 NEVs in May, including 30,679 units of the Dolphin, according to figures released earlier this month.
The introduction of the Dolphin to Australia is BYD's latest move in the country.
BYD launched the Yuan Plus in China on February 19, 2022, and opened pre-orders for the model in Australia at the same time under the Atto 3 name, with an official guide price of A$44,990 to A$47,990 at the time.
In August 2022 BYD announced on Twitter that the company had shipped 1,000 Atto 3 vehicles to Australia, the first BYD passenger cars to be sent to the country.
The Atto 3, BYD's first global model, has already entered many other markets including Singapore, Europe, Mexico and the United Arab Emirates.
The Dolphin has also been introduced to a number of markets including Japan, Colombia, Europe, and Ecuador.

BYD has entered into a strategic partnership with Ecuadorian car dealership group Andor, which will establish six dealer stores in the next six months and plans to expand to 12 in 2024.

BYD held a brand launch event in the Ecuadorian capital Quito on May 3 and debuted the Han EV, Yuan Plus EV and Dolphin models in the country, according to a press release from the Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker today.
At the event, BYD announced a strategic partnership with Ecuadorian car dealership group Andor Corporation, which will showcase BYD models at three shopping centers -- Quicentro Shopping, Paseo San Francisco and Mall del Sol.
In the next six months, Andor will establish six dealer stores in Quito, Guayaquil and Manta, and plans to expand to 12 by 2024.
In the future, BYD will work with local dealers in Ecuador to create a localized sales and service system, the NEV maker said.
BYD sold 210,295 NEVs in April, up 98.31 percent from 106,042 units in the same month last year and up 1.55 percent from 207,080 units in March, according to data released May 2.
The company stopped production and sales of vehicles powered entirely by internal combustion engines last March to focus on producing plug-in hybrids and pure electric vehicles.
BYD's flagship Han family of sedans sold 14,329 units in April, up 6.77 percent year-on-year and up 5.75 percent from March. The Han family includes the all-electric Han EV and the hybrid Han DM series.
The Yuan family of models sold 39,160 units in April, making it the second highest selling BYD model for the month. The Yuan Plus is BYD's first model for the global market and is known as the Atto 3 in several other markets.
Dolphin sold 30,462 units in April, essentially unchanged from 30,077 units in March and up 153.01 percent from 12,040 units in the same month last year.
In April, BYD sold 14,827 NEVs in overseas markets, up 11.38 percent from 13,312 units in March.
