BYD launches 4 models in Jordan, its 1st stop in Middle East

has launched the Dolphin, Tang EV, Atto 3 and Han EV in Jordan, the first stop for the NEV maker to expand into the Middle East market.

BYD (OTCMKTS: BYDDY) officially launched its vehicle offerings in Jordan, following its partnership with local dealer Mobility Solutions Auto Trade Co (MSTC) in September last year.

BYD launched four models at a joint launch event on March 9 with MSTC in Jordan, the first stop for the Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) giant to expand into the Middle East market, according to a press release yesterday.

The four models are the BYD Dolphin, Tang EV, Atto 3 and Han EV.

"This conference is not only our first stop in the Middle East market this year, but also a milestone for our in-depth integration into the Middle East market," Adam Peng, BYD's sales director for the Middle East region, said in the event.

The BYD Dolphin is a compact car, the first production model based on the BYD e-Platform 3.0. The Tang EV is a midsize SUV with 520 horsepower.

The Atto 3, which is called the Yuan Plus in China, is BYD's first global model. The Han EV is BYD's flagship sedan.

In addition to the launch of these four models, BYD also announced plans for a strategic cooperation plan with MSTC.

The two parties will cooperate in sales, after-sales and maintenance to provide service and support to consumers in the Middle East, an important step in BYD's continued growth in the Middle East market, BYD said.

On September 27, 2022, BYD announced a partnership with Bustami & Saheb Trading Company (BSTC), the parent company of MSTC and a Jordanian car dealership group, in order to provide NEVs to local consumers.

BYD sold 193,655 NEVs in February, including 90,639 pure electric passenger cars, 101,025 plug-in hybrid passenger cars, and 1,991 commercial vehicles, according to figures it announced earlier this month.

In February, BYD sold 15,002 NEVs in overseas markets, up 44.13 percent from 10,409 units in January.

Gotion’s controlling shareholder to increase stake by up to RMB 300 million

The move is based on Gotion's controlling shareholder's recognition of the company's value and confidence in its continued rapid growth, according to an exchange announcement.

The controlling shareholder of Chinese power battery maker Gotion High-tech plans to increase its stake in the company, whose stock has continued to fall over the past few months.

Gotion's controlling shareholder, Nanjing Guoxuan Holding Group, plans to increase its stake in the company by no less than RMB 200 million yuan ($29 million) and no more than 300 million yuan within six months from March 13, according to a Shenzhen Stock Exchange announcement on March 12.

The share purchase plan will not set a price range, and the controlling shareholder of Gotion will increase its shareholding at an opportune time according to the fluctuation of the share price and the overall trend of the capital market, according to the announcement.

The move is based on Nanjing Guoxuan's recognition of Gotion's intrinsic value and investment value and confidence in the company and the continued rapid development of the global lithium battery market, the announcement said.

Prior to the increase, Nanjing Guoxuan held 9.6 percent of Gotion's shares, while its two concert parties, Li Zhen and Li Chen, held 5.81 percent and 1.6 percent of the shares, respectively.

Li Zhen is the chairman of Gotion and holds 80.69 percent of Nanjing Guoxuan's shares, according to data provider Tianyancha. Li Chen is Li Zhen's son, according to Gotion's third-quarter earnings report.

Nanjing Guoxuan and its concert parties together hold 17.01 percent of Gotion's shares and have promised not to reduce their holdings within six months after completing the increase, according to the announcement.

They will execute the plan through the means permitted by the Shenzhen Stock Exchange securities trading system by September 13, according to the announcement.

Gotion ranked fourth with a 3.58 percent share of the power battery installed base in China at 0.78 GWh in February.

While Gotion's share of the China power battery market has remained stable, its shares have continued to fall over the past few months and are currently down more than 40 percent from their recent highs in early July 2022.

As of Monday's close, Gotion was down 0.62 percent to RMB 28.92 in Shenzhen.

VW joins China auto price war, offers up to $5,820 discount on ID. series EVs

The price war in China's auto industry continues, with Volkswagen becoming the latest to join in.

FAW-Volkswagen is offering discounts of up to RMB 40,000 yuan ($5,820) on the ID. family of models, with the lineup starting at as low as RMB 174,900 yuan, according to a poster posted on Weibo on March 11 by the Volkswagen joint venture in China.

This is to celebrate the second anniversary of the launch of the ID. family of models, according to the poster.

In addition to the discount, FAW-Volkswagen is offering consumers a free camping kit worth RMB 4,900.

FAW-Volkswagen's poster shows that these offers are for a limited time, but no expiration date is provided.

Currently, FAW-Volkswagen is selling the ID. series of ID.4 Crozz and ID.6 Crozz, two SUVs with suggested retail prices starting at RMB 217,900 and RMB 258,900 respectively.

In addition to FAW-Volkswagen, SAIC-Volkswagen, another Volkswagen joint venture in China, is also offering discounts for the ID. series EVs.

SAIC Volkswagen ID. series pure electric vehicles are offering discounts of up to RMB 30,000, and consumers can also receive up to RMB 10,000 worth of other benefits at dealership stores, according to a poster.

Like FAW-Volkswagen, SAIC-Volkswagen also offers the ID.4 series models, ID.4 X and ID.6 X, with suggested retail prices starting at RMB 195,888 and RMB 259,888, respectively.

In addition to the two ID. series models, SAIC Volkswagen also offers the compact ID.3 model with a suggested retail price starting at RMB 162,888.

Volkswagen had announced monthly sales of the ID. series EVs in late 2021 to early 2022, but then stopped publishing them.

FAW-Volkswagen's retail sales of NEVs in January-February were 9,572 units, down 8.3 percent from 10,442 units in the same period last year, according to a ranking released earlier this month by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA). SAIC Volkswagen did not make it into the ranking of top sellers of NEVs in China.

FAW-Volkswagen's January-February retail sales of all vehicles were down 24.9 percent to 221,946 units, according to the CPCA. SAIC-Volkswagen's retail sales of all vehicles for the same period were down 29 percent to 154,631 units.

Changan’s EV brand Shenlan offers up to $6,030 discount on vehicle purchases

Shenlan is currently selling only one model, the SL03, a Model 3 competitor, with 4,103 units delivered in February.

Shenlan, Changan Automobile's new energy vehicle (NEV) brand, is offering consumers tens of thousands of yuan in incentives to purchase vehicles as the auto price war in China continues.

Shenlan, based in the southwestern Chinese city of Chongqing, announced today that it is offering discounts of up to 42,000 yuan ($6,030) on vehicle purchases.

The offer includes an RMB 22,000 cash subsidy and up to RMB 20,000 in option benefits.

The subsidy is valid from March 10 to March 31 and is limited to 10,000 units.

Shenlan, Changan's NEV brand announced in 2022, officially launched the Shenlan SL03 electric sedan on July 25, another strong competitor to the Model 3.

Unlike the Tesla Model 3, the Shenlan SL03 is available in three powertrain variants -- an all-electric version, an extended-range version and a version with a hydrogen fuel cell.

The Shenlan SL03 BEV currently has a starting price of RMB 189,900, lower than the Model 3's starting price of RMB 229,900 in China, and the SL03 EREV starts at RMB 171,900.

Shenlan began deliveries of the SL03 at the end of August 2022 and has delivered a total of 37,328 units as of the end of February this year, including 4,103 units last month.

On March 5, Shenlan officially unveiled its second model, the Shenlan S7, a model similar to the Tesla Model Y crossover, in Shanghai.

In addition to the Shenlan brand, Changan is offering car purchase incentives for its other sub-brands.

Changan announced yesterday that for consumers who buy any of its passenger cars and get a delivery this month, they will receive a coupon for thousands of yuan.

China Feb EV battery installations: Total volume up 36% from Jan, CATL share down slightly

's share in February was essentially unchanged from January, while CALB's share grew significantly.

China's power battery installed base rebounded in February compared to January, though 's share declined slightly and CALB's share increased significantly.

In February, China's power battery installed base was 21.9 GWh, up 60.4 percent year-on-year and up 36.0 percent from January, according to data released today by the China Automotive Battery Innovation Alliance (CABIA).

CATL's power battery installed base in February was 9.60 GWh, continuing to rank first with a 43.76 percent share, but down from 44.41 percent in January.

BYD installed 7.50 GWh of power batteries in February, ranking second with a 34.19 percent share, essentially unchanged from January's 34.12 percent share.

CALB saw significant market share gains in February, as the company installed 1.62 GWh of power batteries in the month, ranking third with a 7.39 percent share, up 2.46 percentage points from 4.93 percent in January.

Gotion High-tech ranked fourth with an installed base of 0.78 GWh and a 3.58 percent share in February, while Eve Energy ranked fifth with an installed base of 0.71 GWh and a 3.25 percent share.

China's ternary Li-ion battery installed base in February was 6.7 GWh, accounting for 30.6 percent of total installed base, up 15.0 percent year-on-year and up 23.7 percent from January.

The installed base of LFP batteries was 15.2 GWh, accounting for 69.3 percent of the total installed base, up 95.3 percent year-on-year and up 42.2 percent from January.

In the ternary Li-ion battery market, CATL ranked first with 65.53 percent of the total installed base of 4.40 GWh in February.

CALB and LG Energy Solution ranked second and third in the ternary battery market with 10.93 percent and 7.49 percent shares, respectively.

In the LFP battery market, BYD installed 7.50 GWh in February, topping the list with a 49.37 percent share, the second consecutive month it ranked first in this segment.

BYD's power batteries are mainly LFP batteries, which are mainly used in the company's own new energy vehicle (NEV) models.

CATL ranked second in the LFP market with 34.19 percent of the total installed base of 5.20 GWh in February.

CALB and Gotion High-tech ranked third and fourth in the LFP battery market with 5.84 percent and 4.82 percent shares, respectively.

In January-February, China's vehicle sales decreased by 15.2 percent year-on-year while NEV sales increased by 20.8 percent year-on-year.

China saw new energy vehicle (NEV) sales of 525,000 units in February, up 55.9 percent year-on-year and up 28.7 percent from January, according to data released today by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).

The CAAM figures are wholesale sales by vehicle companies, where NEVs include battery electric vehicles (BEVs), plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) and fuel cell vehicles.

China generated sales of 376,000 BEVs in February, up 43.9 percent year-on-year. PHEV sales were 149,000 units, up 98.0 percent year-on-year. Sales of fuel cell vehicles were 40 units, down 77.5 percent year-on-year.

Sales of all vehicles in China were 1.976 million units in February, up 13.5 percent year-on-year and up 19.83 percent from January.

This means that the penetration rate of NEVs in China by the CAAM figures was 26.6 percent in February, up 1.9 percentage points from 24.7 in January.

Production of NEVs in China was 552,000 units in January, up 48.8 percent year-on-year and up 29.9 percent from January.

Production of all vehicles in China in January was 2,032,000 units, up 11.9 percent year-on-year and 27.5 percent from January.

It is worth noting that last year, February 1-6 was the New Year's holiday, which caused disruptions to sales and production at that time. This year, that holiday was January 21-27.

Because the Chinese New Year holiday fell in the same month last year and in January this year, and some local governments introduced policies to boost auto consumption last month, China's auto production and sales increased significantly in February, the CAAM said.

In February, 329,000 vehicles were exported from China, up 82.2 percent year-on-year and up 9.4 percent from January.

Among them, exports of NEVs were 87,000 units, up 79.5 percent year-on-year and up 5.3 percent from January.

In January-February, China's vehicle sales were 3.625 million units, down 15.2 percent from a year earlier, according to the CAAM.

NEVs sold 933,000 units in January-February, up 20.8 percent year-on-year, with a market share of 25.7 percent.

In the first two months, sales of models priced at RMB 150,000 ($21,540) to RMB 250,000 and those priced at RMB 350,000 to RMB 500,000 increased year-on-year, while sales of models in other price segments declined.

For conventional internal combustion engine vehicles, sales of models in the price range of RMB 300,000 to RMB 350,000 increased year-on-year in January-February, while sales of models in all other price ranges declined.

China auto price war: BMW dealers offer discounts of up to $14,360 for i3

A rare price stampede is taking place in the Chinese auto market.

As a large number of car companies in China are offering huge subsidies or price cuts, BMW is offering more than 100,000 yuan ($14,360) off its all-electric model, the i3, according to local media.

In the past two days, rumors have surfaced that BMW dealers are offering massive subsidies for the i3 in China, and that consumers who pay full cash for the car can even get the model for RMB 120,000 to 180,000, less than half the retail price.

BMW insiders deny this, local media Cailian reported today. However, salespeople at BMW dealers say they are indeed offering discounts, and that these measures were introduced only this month, according to the report.

For the BMW i3 eDrive35 L, which currently has a guide price of RMB 353,900, the cost after discounts is RMB 248,000, the report said, citing BMW dealership sources.

Consumers will also receive an additional RMB 6,000 subsidy if they trade in their vehicles, the sources said.

BMW officially made the BMW i3 available in China on March 31, 2022, when only one version, the BMW i3 eDrive35L, was offered, and only for the Chinese market.

BMW's suggested retail price for the BMW i3 eDrive35L at the time was RMB 349,900, and its website currently displays a suggested retail price of RMB 353,900.

On February 20, BMW announced the launch of the BMW i3 eDrive40L in China, offering two versions with starting prices of RMB 383,900 and RMB 413,900 respectively.

The BMW i3 eDrive40L is the premium model of the BMW i3 with better performance and a longer range, the company said in a press release.

Notably, in late November last year, a media report said that Chinese consumers were offered discounts of RMB 80,000-100,000 by dealers when purchasing the BMW i3.

There were even dealers offering discounts of RMB 105,000, equivalent to a 30 percent discount, bringing the vehicle's selling price down to around RMB 245,000, Cheshi reported at the time.

These deals seem to have worked to boost sales in the past few months, as the BMW 3 Series BEV, or BMW i3, sold 2,976 units at retail in China in February, placing it as No. 8 on the list of high-end sedans with a starting price above RMB 300,000 in China, according to a list released earlier today by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA). A list.

In addition to BMW, Mercedes-Benz dealers are also rumored to be offering huge discounts, including up to RMB 110,000 for the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

Cailian today quoted a Mercedes insider as saying there is no such thing. A salesperson at a Mercedes-Benz dealership store in Beijing said that the information circulating on the Internet was untrue and that consumers could only get discounts on their purchases if they registered their vehicles in Beijing.

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class is currently discounted by RMB 60,000 and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class by RMB 50,000, the salesperson said.

The rumors and the dealers' moves come as the Chinese auto industry is staging a rare price war.

Earlier this month, authorities in central China's Hubei province joined forces with a number of local car companies to offer subsidies to consumers for car purchases of up to RMB 90,000 for some models, marking the open entry of fuel models into the price war.

As things stand, car companies are already stampeding each other, Cailian quoted auto industry analyst Zhu Yulong as saying.

The previous price cuts by Tesla had a big impact on the car market, and whoever acts first now will have a head start, Zhu said.

For the internal combustion engine vehicle market, new emission standards that will come into effect on July 1 are one of the major factors that will cause them to cut prices.

China will start enforcing national standard 6b in the second half of the year, which is described as the world's most stringent emissions standard and will force car companies to try to clear their inventories by July, Cailian said, citing a source from consulting firm Ways.

It is worth noting that the sharp price cuts by ICE car companies, which appeared in the process of reducing prices or offering discounts by electric vehicle companies, also brought an impact to the NEV industry.

Earlier today, announced that consumers who order the BYD Song Plus series from March 10 to March 31 will receive a discount of RMB 6,800, or RMB 8,800 for the Seal.

Regulatory filing: Here are core specs for BYD’s Denza brand’s new SUV, Denza N7

The Denza N7 will be available in single- and dual-motor versions, with an option for LiDARs, which are set on both sides of the front bumper.

The Denza N7, a new SUV from 's premium new energy vehicle (NEV) brand Denza, has appeared on a regulatory filing list, after the brand began warming up for the model earlier this week.

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) today announced the latest batch of models that will be allowed to be sold in China, and the Denza N7 is included in the list.

The public can submit their feedback on the list between March 9 and March 15. Entry into the catalog is the last major regulatory process before a model is allowed to be sold in China.

The Denza N7 is available in four versions, including two single-motor versions and two dual-motor versions, the former with a motor with peak power of 230 kW and the latter with an additional motor with peak power of 160 kW.

The vehicle measures 4,860 mm in length, 1,935 mm in width and 1,602 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,940 mm. It can reach a top speed of 180 km/h.

The Denza N7 will be powered by lithium iron phosphate batteries from BYD's battery division, FinDreams Battery.

It will be offered with the LiDARs, which are set on both sides of the front bumper, similar to the setup of the G9.

On December 20, Zhao Changjiang, general manager of Denza's sales division, shared six spy photos of the SUV on Weibo, showing what the model could look like.

In the comments section of that Weibo, Zhao said the SUV is aimed at capturing the market for traditional internal combustion engine cars priced around 400,000 yuan ($57,440).

The model's exterior restores much of the design of Denza's concept car INCEPTION, which was unveiled at the Chengdu auto show on August 26, 2022.

Denza's previously announced 2023 new vehicle plan shows that it will release two new vehicles this year, the Denza N7, a five-seat midsize SUV, and the Denza N8, a midsize SUV with six and seven-seat layouts.

Denza was established in February 2011 as a joint venture between BYD and Daimler, with each of them holding a 50 percent stake at the time. Last year, BYD's stake in Denza was increased to 90 percent.

Denza's only model currently on sale, the D9 MPV, went on sale on August 23, 2022, with deliveries starting October 26.

The brand sold 7,325 vehicles in February, up 13.76 percent from 6,439 in January, according to figures it announced earlier this month.

The latest regulatory filings reveal XPeng's (NYSE: XPEV) new SUV, which is expected to be released in a few months, as the electric vehicle (EV) maker looks to accelerate its new product launches this year.

There are three versions of the XPeng G6 in the catalog, including two single-motor versions and one dual-motor version.

One of the two single-motor versions will be powered by a lithium iron phosphate battery pack, while the other single-motor version and the dual-motor version will both be powered by the more costly ternary lithium batteries.

The XPeng G6 has a length, width and height of 4,753 mm, 1,920 mm and 1,650 mm, respectively, and a wheelbase of 2,890 mm, according to these filing pages.

The model appears to be the one previously mentioned by XPeng management to compete with 's (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model Y, which measures 4,750 mm in length, 1,921 mm in width, 1,624 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,890 mm.

Both single-motor versions of the XPeng G6 are equipped with a motor with 218 kW peak power, while the dual-motor version has an additional 140 kW peak power motor.

All three versions of the XPeng G6 will be equipped with battery cells supplied by 's local competitor CALB, and the battery packs will be manufactured at XPeng's plant in Wuhan, Hubei.

XPeng management said during an earnings call on August 23, 2022 that the company will release a B-segment vehicle in the first half of 2023 that will compete with the Tesla Model Y.

The model was previously seen as possibly being named the G7 or G5, although spy photos shared by some local media last month showed that it will be called the G6.

XPeng chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng said in a January 28 internal all-staff letter that the company will release two new models and revamp three existing older models in 2023, with a goal of delivering 200,000 vehicles for the year, according to a previous report by LatePost.

That report said at the time that the new XPeng SUV would start at RMB 200,000 ($28,680)-250,000 and was expected to be unveiled at this year's Shanghai auto show.

XPeng's current models on sale include the G3i, P5, P7 and G9, and the company has officially unveiled the P7i, a facelift of the P7, on March 6, but not the price. Earlier today, a media report said that XPeng may officially let the P7i go on sale and announce the price on March 10.
