BYD to unveil new technology called ‘Yunnian’ on Apr 10

previously hinted that the technology is expected to give the vehicle an emperor's seat-like feel.  |  BYDDY.US | BYD HK

BYD will unveil a new technology next month, the latest following the e⁴ technology it unveiled in early January.

The new energy vehicle (NEV) giant will unveil a system called "Yunnian" (云辇) at an event on April 10 from 19:00 to 20:30 local time at its global headquarters in Shenzhen.

BYD has previously unveiled key technologies including the DM hybrid system, e-Platform, blade battery, CTB technology and e⁴, while "Yunnian" will be the company's latest in-house developed technology achievement, according to an invitation today.

BYD did not provide an introduction to the "Yunnian" system, saying only that it will be a key technology for the intelligent integration of NEVs in the vertical direction.

On January 4, BYD applied for the trademark "Yunnian" in China.

On March 23, BYD said on Weibo that the Yunnian system will be unveiled soon, and hinted that the technology is expected to make the vehicle stable on rough roads.

The Chinese character "辇" is not common and usually refers to the vehicle in which the emperor rode. The Chinese character "云" means cloud.

The technology is expected to make the vehicle feel like an emperor's vehicle, BYD hinted in a poster on March 23.

The technology will be the second major technology announced by BYD so far this year.

On January 3, BYD officially launched the premium Yangwang brand at its Shenzhen headquarters, where it highlighted the technology platform known as e⁴.

e⁴ is China's first mass-produced quad-motor independent drive technology platform, capable of achieving precise control of the vehicle's four-wheel dynamics with its four-motor independent vector control technology, BYD said at the time.

BYD opened the Yangwang brand launch event by having an SUV enter in crabwalk mode to show off this technology.

e⁴ is a power system with quad-motor independent drive as the core, a comprehensive reconstruction of the characteristics of NEVs in terms of perception, decision-making, and execution, overturning the ability system of the previous fuel car power system, BYD said.

NIO (NYSE: NIO) will begin delivery of the ET5 in Germany on the last day of this month, fulfilling its previous promise to begin European deliveries of the sedan in March.

March 31 is the official delivery date for the NIO ET5 in Germany, and NIO is using it as an opportunity to launch the ET5 first mover campaign, according to an article posted today on the European version of the NIO App.

The first consumers to receive delivery of the NIO ET5 will get a free NOMI Mate voice assistance system and electric folding trailer hitch worth 1,800 euros, according to the article.

Those who have already ordered the ET5 will also receive this benefit, and NIO staff will contact users in the next few days to adjust their orders, according to the article.

The ET5 starts at 47,500 euros in Germany, excluding the battery, and consumers will receive an environmental bonus of 4,500 euros for purchasing the model, according to the article.

In the case of commercial use, users can also benefit from the 0.25 percent tax credit rule that applies to German electric vehicles from January 1, 2019.

The NIO ET5 can currently be ordered in Germany with the above special equipment at no extra charge and is available in limited quantities. The first mover promotion ends with the option of the NOMI Mate for 600 euros and the trailer hookup for 1,200 euros.

"With the launch of the NIO ET5, we are pleased to expand the NIO portfolio in the German market as well as our target group appeal," Ralph Kranz, general manager of NIO Germany, said.

"With the mid-size sedan NIO ET5, we are specifically expanding our electric mobility segment in Germany, creating broader user access to the NIO community thanks to an attractive equipment and price package," he added.

NIO introduced the ET7, EL7 and ET5 to European consumers at the NIO Berlin launch event on October 7 last year. The EL7 is known as the ES7 in China.

Deliveries of the ET7 started in Europe as planned in October last year, and deliveries of the EL7 began at the end of January.

NIO initially offered only vehicle subscription options in Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark. At the end of November last year, NIO began offering purchase options in these countries.

Notably, NIO previously announced a starting price of 49,900 euros for the ET5 in Germany, excluding the battery, and the latest information from the NIO App means a slight price reduction for the model.

In addition, a March 1 article in the European version of the NIO App said that NIO will open a new NIO House in Frankfurt on March 30, which will be the company's second in Germany after the facility in Berlin.

WeRide will work with Strides, a subsidiary of Singapore's largest public transport operator SMRT, to test and pilot self-driving vehicles in the Southeast Asian country, according to an article yesterday on its official WeChat account.

In September 2022, WeRide established the Singapore branch and signed a memorandum of cooperation with Strides in November, according to the article.

SMRT and another Singaporean investment house, K3 Ventures, are both strategic investors in WeRide, and they will help the company grow in Singapore and Southeast Asian markets, the article said.

On March 27, Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong kicked off a six-day visit to China and visited WeRide's headquarters in Guangzhou, said the article.

WeRide's office in Singapore is hiring talents there, and the company will use the office as a regional development center for Asia Pacific operations, according to its founder and CEO Han Xu.

Founded in Guangzhou in 2017, WeRide's products include Robotaxi, Mini Robobus, Robovan, Robo Street Sweeper and SAE L2-L4 advanced smart driving solutions.

WeRide is now testing and operating driverless vehicles in 25 cities in 5 countries, according to the article.

The company has a fleet of more than 500 self-driving vehicles and more than 16 million miles of autonomous driving, WeRide said.

On March 13, Bloomberg reported that WeRide has confidentially filed for an initial public offering in the US and hopes to raise as much as $500 million.

WeRide is poised to go public as early as the first half of this year, according to the report.

In March 2022, local media outlet LatePost reported that WeRide had closed a new round of over $400 million in financing, with a post-investment valuation of $4.4 billion.

Investors in the round included GAC Group, Bosch, China-Arab Investment Funds, and Carlyle Group, the report said.
