NIO (NYSE: NIO) signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with China's state conglomerate China Resources to collaborate on a variety of fronts, the electric vehicle (EV) maker said yesterday.

The two signed the agreement on April 26 at an NIO House in Hefei, Anhui province, in the presence of William Li, founder, chairman and CEO of NIO, and Wang Xiangming, chairman of China Resources, according to an article posted on the NIO App.

NIO and China Resources will cooperate in areas including commercial space leasing and construction, charging and battery swap infrastructure investment and construction, campus and community energy management, new material applications, and consumer services, according to the article.

China Resources is a large state-owned enterprise with major businesses in consumer, energy, urban construction and operations, health, industrial finance, technology and emerging industries.

By the end of 2022, China Resources had total assets of more than RMB 2.3 trillion and was ranked 70th on the Fortune 500 in 2022.

NIO started working with China Resources in 2018, opening more showrooms in the latter's operated properties than any other partner.

By the end of March 2023, NIO had opened 46 NIO Houses and NIO Spaces in commercial real estate projects managed by China Resources, according to the article in the NIO App.

The article did not provide more details on the possible future collaboration between the two. For NIO, it will need the support of partners, especially property operators, in increasing the number of showrooms as well as charging and battery swap infrastructure.

NIO has an aggressive plan to add 1,000 battery swap stations and 10,000 charging piles this year to ensure it provides a continuous energy replenishment experience for owners.

"People always think of battery swap when they think of NIO, but we're actually doing a great job with charging facilities as well … we will be determined to build the infrastructure," Li said in a speech at a forum earlier this month.

NIO Capital invests in Chinese SiC chip maker

Qingchun was founded in March 2021, and the core team members have been involved in SiC semiconductor technology for over 20 years, according to NIO Capital.

NIO Capital has invested in a local Chinese silicon carbide (SiC) chip maker as it continues to expand its investments in the new energy vehicle (NEV) industry chain.

The company recently co-led a several hundred million yuan Series A+ round of financing for Qingchun Semiconductor (or SICHAIN), which will be used to improve the SiC chip maker's supply chain layout, expand its team and build mass production labs, according to a press release today.

Founded in March 2021, Qingchun's core team members have been involved in SiC semiconductor technology for more than 20 years and are one of the few companies in China currently capable of achieving world-class performance and reliability of SiC devices, according to NIO Capital.

The SiC chip maker is also one of the companies able to mass produce automotive SiC MOSFETs based on its production line in China, and its products have been used in new energy power generation and NEVs, according to the release.

Since its inception, Qingchun has made a series of significant advances in SiC device technology and product development, including the maturation of its 1200V SiC MOSFET platform technology and the mass production of multiple products.

The company launched the first 15V drive SiC MOSFET to be mass-produced in China, shipping nearly one million units to various industries, particularly photovoltaics and energy storage, according to the release.

Qingchun also launched the 1200V 14mΩ SiC MOSFET, which has the lowest on-resistance and is currently being validated by several vehicle companies, according to NIO Capital.

The SiC market is spacious and growing fast, with a wide range of application scenarios in areas such as NEVs, and Qingchun is one of the best startups in China for that, said Ian Zhu, managing partner of NIO Capital.

Earlier today, 's electric vehicle brand announced a long-term supply agreement with US chip maker Onsemi involving silicon carbide power devices.

Zeekr will use Onsemi's M3E 1200V EliteSiC MOSFET products to complement its expanding lineup of high-performance all-electric models, according to a press release.

The SiC module is an upgrade to the IGBT (insulated gate bipolar transistor chip) module, a third-generation power semiconductor with higher efficiency, higher temperature resistance and higher voltage characteristics.

The module will help upgrade the electrical architecture of NEVs from 400V to 800V and enable NEVs to charge from 0 to 80 percent in 10 minutes.

NIO (NYSE: NIO) saw its cumulative user miles exceed 10 billion kilometers on April 25, marking a new milestone in the company's history.

NIO announced the milestone today on its mobile app, saying its total number of users to date exceeds 320,000.

NIO delivered 10,378 vehicles in March, bringing cumulative deliveries to 320,597 as of March 31, according to data monitored by CnEVPost.

"Reaching this landmark is a proud moment that confirms NIO is a trusted and proven solution for our loyal users. Our compelling range of power solutions, such as our battery swap stations, offers the freedom to travel freely, knowing a robust power solution is never far away," said William Li, founder, chairman, and CEO of NIO.

The company -- all of whose vehicles are zero-emission battery electric vehicles -- said the 10-billion-kilometer mileage represents a reduction of 1.07 million tons of carbon emissions and a savings of about RMB 7 billion ($1 billion) in energy costs for users.

To date, NIO user footprints have covered over 370 cities worldwide. More than 11,000 of them have driven more than 100,000 kilometers, with the longest one reaching nearly 450,000 kilometers.

Users have driven more than 821 million kilometers with NIO's assisted driving system, with a cumulative usage time of about 10.76 million hours.

The total mileage of NIO's NOP (Navigate on Pilot) system reached 310 million kilometers, and the total mileage of NOP Plus reached 2,730 kilometers.

As of April 25, NIO has provided more than 21 million battery swap services, and the percentage of power provided by battery swap stations exceeds 60 percent, according to the company.

NIO's battery swap stations provided a peak of 62,356 battery swap services in a single day, equivalent to one NIO vehicle receiving a fully charged battery from these stations every 0.7 seconds, it said.

As of April 25, NIO had 1,369 battery swap stations in China, 362 of which are located along highways.

It also has 2,512 charging stations in China, offering 14,903 charging piles, and its charging map has access to 690,000 third-party charging piles.

The company will add 1,000 battery swap stations in China this year, according to its previously announced plans.

In Europe, NIO plans to add up to 70 battery swap stations this year, according to a press release today.

During the upcoming Labor Day holiday, all NIO owners will have unlimited free access to battery swap stations located along highways, it announced yesterday.

This year's Labor Day holiday in China runs from April 29 to May 3. NIO owners will have free access to these battery swap stations from April 28 to May 4, although vehicles used for operational purposes are excluded.

Insurance registrations for week ending Apr 23: Tesla 10,300, Li Auto 7,200, NIO 2,000

NIO sold 2,000 units last week, up from 700 the week before and 1,316 in the first week of April.

(NASDAQ: LI) maintained strong sales last week, and NIO (NYSE: NIO) saw a significant rebound, the latest data show.

With 7,200 units sold in the week ending April 23, Li Auto far outpaced other new car-making brands, the automaker said today on Weibo.

With deliveries of the Air versions of the Li L8 and Li L7, Li Auto's weekly sales hit another record high, it said.

Li Auto didn't specify what statistic that sales figure was based on, though apparently, it was insurance registrations. Previously, we had access to those numbers every Tuesday, and Li Auto's practice was to share some of them on Wednesdays.

The main third-party agencies and Weibo bloggers that provide data on auto insurance registrations in China stopped sharing the data this month, but Li Auto continues to share some of it.

This is the first time Li Auto has shared those numbers on a Tuesday, though they weren't taken down to single digits.

(NASDAQ: TSLA) sold 10,300 units last week, according to the table shared by Li Auto. That was down from 12,500 units the week before and up from 6,973 units in the first week of April.

NIO sold 2,000 units last week, up from 700 the week before and 1,316 in the first week of April.

(NYSE: XPEV) sold 1,900 units last week, up from 1,300 units and 904 units in the previous two weeks.

Among luxury brands, Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi had the highest sales last week with 15,800, 15,600 and 14,800 respectively, according to data shared by Li Auto.

NIO (NYSE: NIO) will continue to allow its car owners unlimited free access to battery swap stations along highways in China for the upcoming golden week, following a similar campaign earlier this year.

For the upcoming Labor Day holiday, all NIO owners will have unlimited free access to battery swap stations along highways, the electric vehicle (EV) maker announced today on its mobile app.

The Labor Day holiday in China runs from April 29 to May 3 this year, and NIO owners will have free access to these battery swap stations from April 28 to May 4, although vehicles used for operations are excluded.

Most NIO owners currently have the benefit of four to six free battery swaps per month, with a few early adopters having unlimited access to the service.

The benefits NIO is offering for the upcoming holiday season are in addition to the benefits owners already have.

The company offered similar benefits during the Chinese New Year holiday earlier this year, allowing for a spike in the number of services offered at its battery swap stations.

NIO offered free access to battery swap stations from January 13 to February 5 during this year's Chinese New Year holiday, which ran from January 21 to January 27.

On January 27, NIO's battery swap stations reached an all-time high of 62,356 services in a single day, according to its previously announced data.

The free battery swap service provided during the Chinese New Year holiday did not put additional cost pressure on NIO, as the revenue generated by its charging stations at the time largely covered those costs, the company said at a media briefing in early February.

As of April 25, NIO had 1,369 battery swap stations in China, including 362 along highways, according to data monitored by CnEVPost.

The company also has 2,512 charging stations in China, providing 14,903 charging piles.

NIO ES7 wait time reduced to about 3 weeks

The wait information for the NIO ES7 last changed on April 17, when it went from about 2 weeks to 3-5 weeks.

The wait time for the NIO (NYSE: NIO) ES7 in China has been slightly shortened, with that information for the SUV becoming longer a week ago.

For consumers currently locking in orders for the ES7, delivery is expected in about 3 weeks, information from the NIO App monitored by CnEVPost shows.

The last change in the wait information for the NIO ES7 was on April 17, when it went from about 2 weeks to 3-5 weeks.

NIO's website and app currently showcase 7 models -- the new ES8, ES7, new ES6, EC7, EC6, ET7, ET5.

All are new models based on the NT 2.0 platform, except for the EC6, which is an older model based on the NT 1.0 platform.

In the vehicle configurator of NIO App, only five models are available -- the new ES8, ES7, EC7, ET7, ET5, while the configurator of the new ES6 and the EC6 based on NT 1.0 platform is not available.

On the first day of the Shanghai auto show on April 18, NIO launched the 2023 ET7 and unveiled the new ES6. The price of the new ET7 is the same as the previously available version, while the price of the new ES6 was not announced.

On April 21, the NIO App saw major changes to the vehicle configurator, with the ET7's wait times starting to be displayed again.

Except for the ES7, wait times for all other NIO models are unchanged today -- deliveries of the new ES8 are expected to begin in June, wait times for both the EC7 and ET7 are about 4 weeks, and for the ET5 is about 2 weeks.

NIO delivered 10,378 vehicles in March, up 3.94 percent from 9,985 units a year ago but down 14.6 percent from 12,157 units in February.

As of March 31, cumulative deliveries of NIO vehicles reached 320,597 units.

NIO's (NYSE: NIO) battery swap station network is extending its coverage to a broader area, completing initial coverage of a major highway from northern to southern China.

On April 23, NIO's battery swap station network completed initial coverage of the G3 Beijing-Taipei highway with 21 battery swap stations along the route, the electric vehicle (EV) maker announced today.

By now, NIO has completed coverage of five major highways connecting to Beijing, the other four being the G1 Beijing-Harbin highway, the G2 Beijing-Shanghai highway, the G4 Beijing-Hong Kong-Macau highway and the G5 Beijing-Kunming highway.

The G3 Beijing-Taipei highway is a trunk line linking northern, eastern and southeastern China, with a total length of 2,030 kilometers, running through Beijing, Hebei, Shandong, Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang, Fujian and Taiwan. The Fuzhou-Taipei section is not yet open.

Along the highway, there is an average of one battery swap station every 112 kilometers, according to NIO.

On July 6, 2022, NIO said at the second NIO Power Day event that it will complete a battery swap network covering nine vertical highways, nine horizontal highways and 19 urban clusters in China by 2025.

NIO expects to have more than 4,000 battery swap stations worldwide by 2025, with 1,000 of them located overseas, the company said at the time.

By 2025, more than 90 percent of NIO customers will have at least one battery swap station within three kilometers of their homes.

As of today, NIO's battery swap station network covers 6 vertical highways, 3 horizontal highways and 8 urban clusters.

NIO announced plans late last year to add 400 battery swap stations in 2023, but that plan was raised to 1,000 on February 21.

William Li, NIO's founder, chairman and CEO, said at the time that the company would further accelerate the deployment of battery swap stations, aiming to have more than 2,300 battery swap stations in China by the end of 2023.

On April 12, NIO's first 10 third-generation swap stations went into operation, after the next-generation station was launched at NIO Day late last year.

On April 18, Li said at a press event on the first day of the Shanghai auto show that NIO will add about 200 battery swap stations every month starting in June.

NIO added two battery swap stations in China today, bringing the total number of facilities to 1,366. It also added five charging stations, bringing the total to 2,506, providing 14,857 charging piles, according to data monitored by CnEVPost.

April 23 and May 6 are working days in China, according to the country's schedule for the upcoming Labor Day holiday, even though they are Sunday and Saturday, respectively. The holiday runs from April 29 to May 3.

The vehicle configurator on NIO's (NYSE: NIO) Chinese mobile app sees significant changes, following the company's launch of the new ES6 and the 2023 ET7 at the Shanghai auto show.

NIO's website currently showcases seven models -- the new ES8, ES7, new ES6, EC7, EC6, ET7, and ET5.

All models are new based on the NT 2.0 platform, except for the EC6, which is an older model based on the NT 1.0 platform.

In the vehicle configurator of NIO App, only 5 models are available -- the new ES8, ES7, EC7, ET7, ET5, while the configurators of the new ES6 and the NT 1.0 EC6 are not available.

On the first day of the Shanghai auto show on April 18, NIO launched the new ET7 and unveiled the new ES6.

The 2023 ET7 is already taking order lock-ins, with deliveries starting in mid-May. The new ES6 started to take pre-orders, but the official launch and delivery will be late May, William Li, NIO founder, chairman and CEO, said at the time in a brief launch event.

Previously, the NIO website and app are showing eight models, including the ES8, ES6 and EC6 based on the NT 1.0 platform, and the new ES8, ES7, EC7, ET7 and ET5 based on the NT 2.0 platform.

The all-new ES8 currently shows an expected delivery date of June, in line with the previous one. The model was unveiled at the NIO Day event on December 24 last year and has not yet started taking order lock-ins.

The ES7 currently has a wait time of 3-5 weeks, consistent with the previous information. The model was launched on June 15, 2022, and deliveries began on August 28.

The EC7 currently has a wait time of about 4 weeks. The model was unveiled at last year's NIO Day event on December 24 and began allowing consumers to lock in their orders on April 6.

Deliveries of custom vehicles for the EC7 will begin in mid-May, NIO said on April 6.

Wait time for the ET7 is back on display and currently stand at about 4 weeks. On March 13, the NIO App stopped displaying expected delivery times for the ET7.

On April 18, NIO launched the 2023 ET7 at the Shanghai auto show, and began accepting order lock-ins. Deliveries of the model are expected to begin in mid-May, Li said at the time.

The ET5 currently has a wait time of about 2 weeks, in line with the previous one.

In the first half of this year, NIO will introduce more new products to accelerate the pace from product launch to delivery, the company's management said in a call with analysts after announcing fourth-quarter earnings early last month.

The company will also begin deliveries of its fifth new model this year in July, which would be a month later than originally planned, Li said on the call.

NIO's supply chain and manufacturing teams were actively preparing for the new model switchover and production ramp-up to ensure capacity and supply meet the increased demand for new products, the company said at the time.

The company's main model delivered in the first quarter was the ET5, which is a lower-margin model, so the pressure on gross margin in the first quarter was relatively high, Li said.
