BYD (OTCMKTS: BYDDY) will invest hundreds of millions of dollars in Brazil to build an industrial complex as it steps up its efforts to expand in international markets.

The Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker will set up a large production base complex of three plants in Brazil, BYD and the Brazilian state government of Bahia jointly announced on July 4, according to a statement.

The facility is located in the Brazilian city of Camacari, with a total investment of 3 billion reais ($620 million), according to a statement from BYD today.

The industrial complex includes a production plant for electric buses and truck chassis, a new energy passenger car production plant, and a processing plant specializing in lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery materials.

The new energy passenger car production line will be able to produce pure electric and plug-in hybrid models with a planned annual capacity of 150,000 units.

The LFP battery material processing plant will utilize local port resources to meet the growing demand for new energy products in the global market, BYD said.

The industrial complex is scheduled to start production in the second half of 2024 and is expected to create more than 5,000 local jobs, according to the BYD statement.

The creation of a large production base complex in Brazil is an important milestone in BYD's development in the Americas market and will help accelerate the penetration of NEVs there, said BYD Americas president Stella Li.

In October 2022, BYD signed a letter of intent with the Bahia state government to build a vehicle production facility in the industrial area left behind by Ford after it closed its plant outside the city's capital, El Salvador.

The Bahia state government said at the time that BYD would build electric bus and truck chassis, as well as electric and hybrid cars, at three plants, and would also process Brazilian lithium for car battery exports to China.

"We have been in Brazil for almost 10 years. We have experienced many political changes in this period, in addition to exchange rate fluctuations, and inflation. But I think that in the long term, Brazil has its own advantages," Li said at the time.

BYD is now bringing its passenger cars to international markets, launching the Dolphin in Brazil on June 28, its fifth model in the country after the Tang EV, Han EV, Yuan Plus EV and Song Plus DM-i.

In addition to NEVs, BYD is already producing photovoltaic modules in Brazil.

On October 21, 2022, the company announced that BYD Energy Brazil's cumulative production of PV modules surpassed 2 million, after five years of local operations.

Last April, BYD opened a new PV module production line at its Campinas, Brazil, plant that is compatible with all sizes of PV cells currently on the market, allowing for increased productivity and efficiency.

BYD (OTCMKTS: BYDDY) entered into a partnership with Jamaican car dealer ATL Automotive on June 26 to jointly provide new energy passenger car products for the Caribbean markets.

ATL, which was founded in 1997 and has a dedicated workforce of up to 600 employees, has been the largest investor in Jamaica's automotive sector since 2010, according to a BYD press release today. The two held a signing ceremony in Jamaica's capital city of Kingston.

BYD and ATL will work together to provide passenger new energy vehicle (NEV) sales and after-sales services to consumers in the Caribbean, with operations in 10 countries.

ATL has been appointed as BYD's regional dealer for sales and after-sales operations in Jamaica. In addition, ATL will assume regional management responsibilities in nine additional countries, including Trinidad and Tobago, Cayman, Curaçao, Barbados, Aruba, Antigua, Saint Lucia, Guyana, and Suriname.

The two plan to open two BYD showrooms in Jamaica, in Kingston and Montego Bay, in order to provide local consumers with a one-stop experience of BYD technology and BYD products, according to the release.

"We will begin accepting pre-orders immediately, with car deliveries scheduled to commence in October. Then there will be a massive roll-out of showrooms across the Caribbean. The future is electric, and BYD will be Jamaica's and the Caribbean's number one EV brand," said Adam Stewart, executive chairman of ATL.

In the coming year, BYD will complete the construction of 10 stores with ATL, said Neva Zhang, country manager of the Caribbean and Central American Countries of BYD.

BYD's press release did not mention which models will first be available in the Caribbean.

This is the latest development for the Chinese NEV giant in the overseas passenger car market, where it launched the Dolphin model on June 22 with Australian partner EV Direct.

BYD sold 240,220 NEVs in May, up 108.99 percent from 114,943 units in the same month last year and up 14.23 percent from 210,295 units in April.

In May, BYD sold 10,203 NEVs in overseas markets, down 31.19 percent from 14,827 units in April.

The company stopped production and sales of vehicles powered entirely by internal combustion engines in March last year and switched to focus on producing plug-in hybrids and pure electric vehicles.

BYD (OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has launched another electric vehicle (EV) in Australia after the Atto 3.

BYD and Australian partner EV Direct officially launched the Dolphin locally at a launch event on June 22, according to a press release from the Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) giant yesterday.

The car is available in 3 versions in Australia, with starting prices of A$38,890 ($26,000), A$44,890 and A$49,990 respectively.

For reference, BYD Dolphin is offered in three versions in China with starting prices of RMB 116,800 ($16,200), RMB 123,800 and RMB 136,800 respectively.

The BYD Dolphin is an A0-class pure electric vehicle with a length, width and height of 4,290 mm, 1,770 mm and 1,570 mm, respectively, and a wheelbase of 2,700 mm.

The model will enrich BYD's product matrix in the Australian market and help the country achieve a green future, BYD said.

BYD launched the Dolphin in China on August 29, 2021, the first product in its Ocean lineup and the first model based on its e-Platform 3.0.

BYD sold 240,220 NEVs in May, including 30,679 units of the Dolphin, according to figures released earlier this month.

The introduction of the Dolphin to Australia is BYD's latest move in the country.

BYD launched the Yuan Plus in China on February 19, 2022, and opened pre-orders for the model in Australia at the same time under the Atto 3 name, with an official guide price of A$44,990 to A$47,990 at the time.

In August 2022 BYD announced on Twitter that the company had shipped 1,000 Atto 3 vehicles to Australia, the first BYD passenger cars to be sent to the country.

The Atto 3, BYD's first global model, has already entered many other markets including Singapore, Europe, Mexico and the United Arab Emirates.

The Dolphin has also been introduced to a number of markets including Japan, Colombia, Europe, and Ecuador.

BYD expands presence in Middle East with launch of Atto 3 in UAE

The Atto 3 is priced significantly lower than other EVs in the UAE, making it by far the most accessible electric model available in the UAE through official dealers.

BYD (OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has entered the UAE passenger car market to expand its presence in the Middle East further after having previously entered Israel and Jordan.

On June 21, BYD launched the Atto 3 in the UAE with its local partner Al-Futtaim Electric Mobility Company. The model, known as the Yuan Plus in China, is the first global model from the new energy vehicle (NEV) maker.

This revolutionary vehicle marks a significant milestone in the UAE's journey towards sustainable mobility and reinforces both BYD and Al-Futtaim's commitment to contributing towards the UAE's Net-Zero 2050 strategic goals, BYD said in a press release.

The Atto 3 is priced at Dh149,900 ($40,810) in the UAE, below the Dh150,000 mark.

The pricing makes it by far the most accessible EV model available in the UAE through an official dealership, said Gulf News, an English-language UAE media outlet.

Other EVs are priced closer to Dh200,000 and higher, leaving a fairly open field for BYD to build scale in this market, Gulf News said.

BYD officially launched the Yuan Plus in China on February 19, 2022, and opens pre-orders for the model in Australia on the same day under the Atto 3 name.

The model is currently offered in five versions in China with a price range of RMB 139,800 ($19,470) to RMB 167,800.

Prior to the official launch of the Atto 3 in the UAE, more than 95,000 online visitors viewed the model, with more than 3,000 registered leads and 153 bookings, said Al-Futtaim managing director Hasan Nergiz, according to Gulf News.

"What people don't understand that much is that BYD is already the No. 1 EV manufacturer in the world and outsells . Atto 3 is the model that we will deploy to build a presence in the UAE and then will come the other models," Nergiz said.

The Atto 3 is BYD's first A-class SUV based on e-Platform 3.0, with a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 7.3 seconds and a maximum range of 420 km WLTP.

BYD considered the needs and preferences of its UAE customers, and the model passed product localization and high-temperature testing, it said.

"We understand the importance of product localization for the UAE market with its unique climate and hot weather," said AD Huang, general manager of BYD Middle East & Africa.

"Last year, we conducted extensive hot weather testing to ensure the BYD Atto 3 performs optimally even in the region's challenging climate and hot summers. Over the course of several months, we drove more than 100,000 kilometers across the UAE in order to optimize the vehicle's performance and ensure that our customers receive the best driving experience possible with the BYD Atto 3," he said.

Currently, EV sales account for less than 5 percent of new car sales in the UAE, and that number is skewed toward fleet sales rather than retail buyers, the Gulf News report said, adding that that could change as people in their 20s or 30s become early adopters of EVs.

BYD will next launch its flagship Han sedan in the UAE, for which pre-orders are open on the BYD UAE website and will actually launch in October.

The UAE is the latest Middle East market BYD has entered, with the NEV maker announcing its entry into the Israeli passenger car market last August and launching four models -- Dolphin, Tang EV, Atto 3 and Han EV -- in Jordan on March 9.

BYD sold 240,220 NEVs in May, up 108.99 percent from 114,943 units in the same month last year and up 14.23 percent from 210,295 units in April, according to data released earlier this month.

In May, BYD sold 10,203 NEVs in overseas markets, down 31.19 percent from 14,827 units in April.

BYD (OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has delivered the first 100 units of the Yuan Plus, its first global electric vehicle (EV) model, in Mexico.

The delivery of the 100 Yuan Plus was made by BYD and three dealers, Continental, Dalton and Liverpool, which have stores in Mexico City and Guadalajara, BYD said today.

Yuan Plus is the first A-class SUV to feature BYD's e-Platform 3.0, initially available in China on February 19, 2022.

The model is the also first BYD model to be built for the global market under the name Atto 3 in several other markets. In the Mexican market, BYD is following the same name it used in China for the model.

"We are delighted to announce the simultaneous delivery of 100 BYD YUAN PLUS vehicles in Mexico City and Guadalajara. This milestone underscores the growing interest and demand for sustainable and efficient electric vehicles among Mexican consumers," said Zou Zhou, country manager of BYD Mexico.

BYD did not make any additional introductions for the model, which has previously been available in several markets, including Australia, Mongolia, Nepal and Jordan.

The model sold in China measures 4,455 mm in length, 1,875 mm in width and 1,615 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,720 mm.

The BYD Yuan Plus is powered by a motor with a peak power of 150 kW and a peak torque of 310 Nm, with a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 7.3 seconds.

In Mexico, BYD announced in February that it has entered into a strategic auto finance partnership with Santander Bank, through which BYD will provide a full range of auto finance solutions to local dealers.

BYD and Santander Bank will also provide Mexican consumers with financial services for NEV purchases, including down payments as low as 10 percent, installments of up to 72 months and waiver of application fees for vehicle purchase loans, according to a previous press release.
