BYD (OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has officially entered the Italian passenger car market, as it expands its presence in Europe.

The Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) giant held a brand and product launch event in Italy on June 13, introducing the BYD Atto 3, Han, Dolphin and Seal to local consumers, according to a press release today.

Italy is an important European automotive market and holds a significant position in BYD's efforts to enter overseas markets, BYD said, adding that it introduced new energy commercial vehicles to Italy in 2013.

In the passenger car segment, BYD will work with a number of core local dealers, with the first five stores opening in cities including Milan, Turin and Florence, it said.

The Atto 3, BYD's first global model, is known in China as the Yuan Plus and is already available in multiple overseas markets.

At the Monza Motor Show in Milan, to be held in mid-June, the Atto 3 will be open to the Italian public for test drives, BYD said.

In the future, BYD will continue to increase its localization investment in the Italian market and expand its passenger car model matrix, the company said.

BYD, China's largest NEV maker, stopped production and sales of vehicles powered entirely by internal combustion engines last March to focus on plug-in hybrids and pure electric vehicles.

The company sold 240,220 NEVs in May, up 108.99 percent from 114,943 units a year earlier and up 14.23 percent from 210,295 units in April, according to figures it announced earlier this month.

In May, BYD sold 10,203 NEVs in overseas markets, down 31.19 percent from 14,827 units in April.

In Europe, BYD entered the passenger car markets including Germany, Sweden and Denmark last year and came into the UK in March this year.

BYD (OTCMKTS: BYDDY) said it is evaluating the feasibility of building a passenger car plant in Europe after a report earlier today generated widespread discussion.

The Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) giant wants to build a plant in Europe, and France is among the countries it's considering, with Spain and Germany also in the running, according to a report in French media outlet Les Echos today.

"Discussions with BYD are continuing," the report said, citing an unnamed French minister.

BYD is evaluating the feasibility of building a passenger car plant in Europe and is looking for a suitable location, the company said in a response shared with CnEVPost.

This is not the first time BYD has been reported to be looking to build a passenger car plant in Europe, as the NEV giant ramps up its efforts to expand in international markets.

Last December 7, Bloomberg cited BYD executive vice president Stella Li as saying that BYD was looking to build a passenger car plant in Europe.

"Yes, and maybe not only one, it can be two," Li said at the time, adding that the company was evaluating the best locations to support BYD's fast ramp-up.

In a March 12 interview with the Financial Times, BYD European president Michael Shu said the company was looking at both new sites and existing plants, with the first European plant likely to be located in Germany, France, Spain, Poland and Hungary.

A decision is likely this year, with the aim of producing its first vehicles as early as 2025, according to the report.

BYD established its first overseas branch in the Netherlands in 1998 to expand into the European market.

Its European branch has expanded its business from batteries to solar energy, energy storage and NEVs, with an operational footprint of more than 20 countries and 100 cities across Europe, according to information shared by the company at the end of September last year.

Notably, BYD had not previously promoted its passenger car business hard in Europe until September 28 last year, when it introduced three battery electric vehicles (BEVs) -- the Atto 3, Han, and Tang -- to the European market at an online launch event.

In April this year, BYD held a launch event in Barcelona, Spain, announcing that Dolphin and Seal will enter the European market in 2023.

The Dolphin will be available for pre-sale this summer, with deliveries in the fourth quarter, and the Seal will be available in Europe shortly thereafter, BYD said at the time.

The two models will be BYD's new batch of all-electric models in Europe, following the launch of the Han, Tang and ATTO 3 in Europe last year, and are the first BYD Ocean series models to be launched for the European market.

BYD sold 210,295 NEVs in April, up 98.31 percent year-on-year and up 1.55 percent from March.

In April, BYD sold 14,827 NEVs in overseas markets, up 11.38 percent from 13,312 units in March.

The BYD Dolphin and Seal will be available in Europe within the year, and will be the first time the company's Ocean series models to be brought there.

BYD recently held a new car launch in Barcelona, Spain, announcing that the Dolphin and Seal will be available in Europe in 2023, according to a press release from the company today.

The Dolphin will be available for pre-sale this summer, with deliveries in the fourth quarter, and the Seal will be available in Europe shortly thereafter, BYD said.

The two models will be BYD's new batch of all-electric models in Europe, following the launch of the Han, Tang and ATTO 3 in Europe last year, and will be the first Ocean series models to be launched for the European market.

These two models will further enrich BYD's European new energy vehicle (NEV) model matrix and will allow more users to enjoy a high-quality new energy mobility experience, BYD said.

BYD officially launched the BYD brand and three models to the European market at the Paris auto show in October 2022. Now, the arrival of the Dolphin and Seal models marks BYD's determination to further expand into the European NEV market, said Michael Shu, general manager of BYD Europe.

On September 28 last year, BYD introduced three battery electric vehicles (BEVs) -- Atto 3, Han, and Tang -- to the European market at an online launch event for delivery to Norway, Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany.

All three models are part of BYD's Dynasty series, with the Atto 3 being the first SUV based on BYD's e-Platform 3.0, known as the Yuan Plus in China. Han is the company's flagship all-electric sedan, and Tang EV is its flagship SUV.

Both the Dolphin and the Seal are models in BYD's Ocean series, the former an all-electric compact car and the latter an all-electric sedan.

BYD sold 207,080 NEVs in March, up 97.45 percent from 104,878 units in the same month last year and up 6.93 percent from 193,655 units in February, according to data released on April 2.

In March, BYD sold 13,312 NEVs in overseas markets, down 11.27 percent from 15,002 units in February.

The company stopped producing and selling vehicles powered entirely by internal combustion engines in March last year and switched to focus on producing plug-in hybrids and pure electric vehicles.

BYD Dolphin sold a record 30,077 units in March, up 186.42 percent year-on-year and up 31.56 percent from February.

The BYD Seal sold 6,000 units in March, down 22.62 percent from February.

BYD (OTCMKTS: BYDDY), which just last week officially announced its entry into the UK passenger car market, has signed a purchase agreement with a local car rental company.

BYD entered into a partnership with UK-based Octopus Electric Vehicles (Octopus EV) on March 10, which plans to buy 5,000 BYD electric vehicles over the next 3 years, according to a press release today.

The initial order will include the BYD Atto 3, an all-electric C-segment SUV that debuted in the UK this month.

The vehicles will be offered with the Salary Sacrifice program, one of the most affordable ways to lease BYD vehicles in the UK, according to the Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker.

The start of this commercial relationship lays the foundations for Octopus EV to become a BYD partner for the Salary Sacrifice scheme in the UK, with plans for further orders in the future, the release said.

A salary sacrifice program is an agreement to reduce an employee's cash compensation entitlement, usually in exchange for a non-cash benefit.

Founded in 2018, Octopus EV is a subsidiary of Octopus Energy Group, one of Europe's largest renewable energy investors based in the UK.

Octopus EV offers services including electric vehicle leasing, charging post installation, and special discounted tariffs for electric vehicles through its parent company.

On March 8, BYD announced the official start of sales of the Atto 3 in the UK, its first passenger car offered in the country.

The model will start at £36,490 ($43,230) in the UK and local deliveries will begin on March 15, BYD said last week.

The first BYD pioneer stores will open soon, in the backbone of the U.K., including Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow and Milton Keynes, the company said.

The Atto 3, known in China as the Yuan Plus, went on sale on February 19, 2022, and is the first SUV on BYD's all-electric platform, e-platform 3.0.
