The U8, the first production model of the Yangwang brand, is a hardcore off-road SUV that will be priced at the RMB 1 million level.

's premium brand Yangwang will begin pre-sales of its first model on the first day of the Shanghai auto show, after the model was officially unveiled in January.

Pre-sales of the Yangwang U8, which will redefine hardcore off-roading, will begin on April 18, Yangwang said on Weibo today.

"See you in Shanghai on April 18," Yangwang said, hinting that the U8 will be on display at the upcoming Shanghai auto show.

The Shanghai auto show will be held at the National Exhibition and Convention Center from April 18-27, with media days from April 18-19 and professional visitor days from April 20-21, while the general public can enter from April 22-27.

BYD's booth is 7A06 at Hall 7.1 and Yangwang is at 8A05 at Hall 8.1. On April 7, Yangwang said the U9 electric supercar will be on display at the Shanghai auto show.

BYD officially launched the Yangwang brand on January 5, along with the first two models -- Yangwang U8 and Yangwang U9.

The U8, the first production model of the Yangwang brand, is a hardcore off-road SUV that is more than 5 meters long and 2 meters wide.

The model is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4 seconds and will be priced at RMB 1 million ($146,000) level.

The Yangwang U8 has the performance, safety and reliability of a hardcore off-road SUV, with intelligent extrication and emergency avoidance capabilities in complex road conditions, along with technology and intelligence, BYD previously said.

The Yangwang U9, on the other hand, is a supercar that will also be priced at the RMB 1 million level, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 3 seconds.

BYD announced the Yangwang brand along with a technology platform called e⁴, which it said was the first mass-produced four-motor independent drive technology platform. Both the U8 and U9 will be equipped with e⁴ technology.

On April 10, BYD officially unveiled its intelligent body control system called DiSus in Shenzhen, which is another technological breakthrough after its DM super hybrid technology, e-Platform 3.0, Blade Battery and e⁴ platform.

The BYD DiSus system is divided into three branches, including the Intelligent Damping Body Control System (DiSus-C), the Intelligent Air Body Control System (DiSus-A), and the Intelligent Hydraulic Body Control System (DiSus-P).

DiSus-P, which has a suspension adjustment travel of up to 200 mm and can lift all four wheels simultaneously as well as independently for a single wheel, will first be equipped on the Yangwang U8.

NIO’s 1st 10 3rd-gen swap stations go into operation

aims to have more than 2,300 battery swap stations in China by the end of 2023, and the number stood at 1,342 as of April 13.

NIO's (NYSE: NIO) first 10 third-generation battery swap stations went live today in 10 Chinese cities, marking the start of its aggressive infrastructure buildout this year.

The electric vehicle company had said on March 20 that its first 10 third-generation battery swap stations would go live on March 28. But that didn't happen, and NIO only made the next-generation stations' real-life debut that day.

The cities that saw the first third-generation NIO battery swap stations go live were Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Hefei, Chengdu, Haikou, Wuxi, Zhengzhou, Qingdao and Harbin, according to an article posted today on NIO's mobile app.

The sites for the 10 third-generation battery swap stations were decided by 866 NIO users through the NIO App's wish list feature, according to the article.

As of April 13, NIO has accumulated 1,342 battery swap stations in China, of which 351 are located along highways.

NIO also has 2,451 charging stations, including 14,541 charging piles. Its charging map has access to more than 680,000 third-party charging piles in China.

NIO announced late last year a plan to add 400 battery swap stations in 2023, but that plan was raised to 1,000 on February 21.

William Li, NIO's founder, chairman and CEO, said at the time that the company would further accelerate the deployment of battery swap stations, aiming to have more than 2,300 battery swap stations in China by the end of 2023.

Mass production of NIO's third-generation battery swap stations was well underway, with volume production expected to begin in April and deployment of stations accelerating in May, Li said at the time.

Starting in June, NIO will basically keep building 120-150 battery swap stations per month, he said.

NIO's third-generation battery swap station, released at the NIO Day 2022 event on December 24, 2022, can store up to 21 battery packs, up from 13 for its predecessor generation and five for the first generation of the facility.

This next-generation facility increases the daily service capacity of a single site to 408 services, a 30 percent increase over the second generation.

Notably, some of NIO's third-generation battery swap stations will be equipped with two LiDARs and two Nvidia Orin chips, for a total computing power of 508 TOPS.

Regulatory filing: VW ID.7 coming to China

The ID.7 is 4,956 mm long and is powered by an electric motor with a peak power of 150 kW.

The new model of Volkswagen's ID family, the ID.7, may not be far from its launch in China, as it enters a regulatory catalog.

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology today announced the latest batch of models that will soon be allowed to be sold, and the ID.7 from FAW-Volkswagen is included.

The Chinese public can submit feedback between April 12 and April 18. Entry into the catalog is the last major regulatory process for a model to be allowed to be sold in China.

The ID.7 has a length, width and height of 4,956 mm, 1,862 mm and 1,537 mm, respectively, and a wheelbase of 2,965 mm, according to the filing page.

In powertrain, the model is available in only one version, with a 150-kW peak power motor and a top speed of 155 km/h.

It has a ternary lithium battery pack and the manufacturer is a joint venture between FAW and .

In late January, Volkswagen announced that the ID.7, the sixth model in the ID series, will make its world debut in the second quarter.

The ID.7 will be a premium model and Volkswagen's second global model based on the MEB platform, following the ID.4.

On April 5, VW announced that testing of the ID.7 is almost complete and the model will be officially launched on April 17.

"The new ID.7 will enhance the upper mid-size class in Europe, China and North America," Volkswagen said in an April 5 press release.

Volkswagen's ID series of electric vehicles in China are produced by its two main joint ventures.

FAW-Volkswagen's ID. series models on sale are the ID.4 Crozz and ID.6 Crozz, two SUVs with suggested retail prices starting at RMB 217,900 ($31,660) and RMB 258,900, respectively.

SAIC Volkswagen's ID. series models are the ID.4 X and ID.6 X, with suggested retail prices starting at RMB 195,888 and RMB 259,888, respectively.

In addition to the two models in the ID. series, SAIC Volkswagen also offers the compact ID.3 model with a suggested retail price starting at RMB 162,888.

A month ago, as the price war in China's auto industry intensified, FAW-Volkswagen offered discounts of up to RMB 40,000 on ID. family models, bringing the starting price of the SUV series to as low as RMB 174,900.

Regulatory filing: Here are core specs for Denza N8

The Denza N8 is 4,949 mm long and will be available in two pure electric versions and two plug-in hybrid versions in the powertrain.

(All-electric version of Denza N8)

's premium new energy vehicle (NEV) brand Denza released exterior images of its new SUV Denza N8 at the end of last month, and now a regulatory filing reveals its core specifications.

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) released the latest batch of models to be allowed for sale in a catalog for public comment on April 11, and the Denza N8 was included.

The public can submit feedback on the catalog between April 12 and April 18. Entry into the catalog is the last major regulatory process for a model to be allowed to be sold in China.

There are four versions of the Denza N8 in the catalog, including a single-motor all-electric version, a dual-motor all-electric version, a DM-i plug-in hybrid version, and a DM-p plug-in hybrid version.

The single-motor all-electric version is equipped with a 230-kW peak power motor, and the dual-motor version has 230-kW and 200-kW peak power front and rear motors, respectively.

(All-electric version of Denza N8)

The Denza N8 hybrids are all equipped with a 1.5 T engine with a maximum power of 102 kW.

In terms of electric motors, the more fuel-efficient DM-i version has a 160-kW peak motor, while the more performance-oriented DM-p version has dual motors with 160 kW and 200 kW peak front and rear motors, respectively.

All four versions support a top speed of 190 km/h.

The model measures 4,949 mm in length, 1,950 mm in width and 1,725 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,830 mm.

Denza began warming up for the Denza N8 in early March, sharing several images of the model on Weibo at the end of March.

Denza was established in February 2011 as a joint venture between BYD and Daimler, each holding a 50 percent stake at the time. The Daimler brand was rebranded as Mercedes-Benz in February 2022.

BYD's stake in Denza increased to 90 percent last year, and Mercedes-Benz's stake decreased to 10 percent.

In August 2022, Denza lets the D9 MPV go on sale, the brand's first model after the re-branding. The Denza D9 began deliveries at the end of October last year.

Prior to the Denza N8, Denza was already warming up for another SUV, the Denza N7, which will be officially launched in the first half of the year.

There are many customers who want to get the Denza N7 released and launched as soon as possible, and based on inquiry volume data, the model is expected to get 30,000 orders before it goes on sale in the middle of the year, Zhao Changjiang, general manager of Denza's sales division, said on Weibo on March 26.

BYD aims to sell at least 3 million vehicles this year and strive to reach 3.6 million, the company's chairman and president Wang Chuanfu said late last month.
